Everton Youth Teams Thread

Probably a fair end result for the squad.
Have to remember that on the whole this is a fairly “young” squad for the U21 (arguments not withstanding about that being the right plan for development pathway/challenging young players/loaning out potential “stars” etc, different discussion).

Graham/Thomas/Morgan/Lukj are all still u18 eligible (Thomas and Morgan aging out this year)
OSS/Patterson/Sheriff/Bates/Tamen/Beaumont-Clark are all in their first year of u21 ball.
Gomez is playing his first year in Europe.

So aside from Onyango and Welch who we are all too familiar with at this point, I don’t think there’s anyone else who played regularly with the squad who is aging out this year

…I think it’s down to lots of things but mainly because boys in places like Liverpool don’t spend most of their leisure time playing footy. You rarely see kids playing street football nowadays, all those endless hours of enjoyment but you were honing skills, building competitiveness and attitude. Kids have access to computer games and social media, organised school football is not like it was.

I’m not particularly knocking it, it’s a sign of the times and also negatively impact the health of the nation with obesity etc.

Academies are picking up kids as young as 5 and make them & their parents feel like they are doing them a favour, in reality they ditch nearly all of them as quickly as they sign them.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the top European leagues are full of Africans and South Americans, where poverty and football continues to go hand-in-hand.

As kids we used to spend most weekends on the park with a football. Now you rarely see groups playing. All sat at home on their phones/playstations etc so I can see where you’re coming from.

I went last night. Thought we were a bit of a mess tactically - once United upped the press in the second half, we were overrun and our changes made things worse. And whilst there isn’t anyone there who looks likely to come into the first team any time soon, there are some players who clearly have high potential - Sherif constantly worried all the United fans with his strength and speed, Graham sees the game on a different level to anyone else we have, Patterson was fantastically combative and Heath is technically really good.

Does anyone know what Jose Baxter’s exact role is with them? Im not being harsh, but he was standing round looking half asleep like he’d just got up and it was difficult to see what his actual contribution to the set up was. As much as footie has changed over a generation, our reserves still always looks less professional than anyone we’re playing to me - same as when Unsie used to run it as his own little empire or Mick Lyons (as the manager) picked himself up front.

Young Jose's even getting stick for being a commentator these days. So I think you are being harsh!

Ha, fair enough! I’d love to see him go elsewhere, prove himself as a coach and also prove me wrong. At the mo I find it hard to believe that our youngsters have the best coaches the world has to offer.

A lot of the greenspace has gone, population/ housing and even the young amateur leagues are struggling with higher fees to use them. We used to play, hail, rain and snow on the front grass verges, but again there are so many more cars on the roads, even that is near impossible to do.
