Everton Youth Teams Thread

So it's a risk averse strategy to avoid damaging a players development, rather than a purely goalkeeping decision.

Do most premier league academies follow this policy ?
Give "premier league why have 2 goalkeepers on the bench" a Google and you'll see plenty of managers much more intelligent than me give compelling reasons for doing it.

But at the end of the day, it's not an academy policy as you say, it's just the decision of the first team manager. What that boils down to is that for an academy player to get on the bench, he has to be better than an existing squad member. Convincing a premier league manager to leave out a professional for an academy player won't be easy given the average premier league manager is only 4 or 5 bad games from the sack.

1) Gravenberch went to Bayern before the reds
2) They sold Timber for £37m the same year we sold Anthony Gordon for £40m
3) We also generated money from selling Samuels Smith, Cannon & Simms for roughly £18m, Rensch for £5m doesn't represent good value by Ajax when you look at that
4) Brobbey, Taylor & Bass have steadily declined over the years as they have had further exposure to first team football, we could also say the same with Armstrong, Tyrer & Dixon would all produce funds if sold, especially Armstrong

Here is another stat.

In a typical Premier League season, it's quite rare to see two goalkeepers used as substitutes in a single match. According to Opta, a back-up goalkeeper was used only nine times in the 380 Premier League games of last season, which equates to a 2.3% chance of a second-choice keeper appearing.

Ok but this doesn't change the fact that a kid being on the bench for specific games will be actively harming their development.

Yeah, it's safe to say that the decision to have 2 goalies on the bench is never about the goalies.

Doesn't Ajax's youth team play in the lower levels in the Dutch league? So their guys get exposed to playing against men without going out on loan.
I’m going to split hairs here but technically Jong Ajax (yes, I know what it translates to) is actually a B team that I think has a u21 or u23 rule. There is still a youth/academy team that plays against other academies in age protected groups. Very similar in nature to the EFL trophy

Not sure if any Everton players in this

Jonathan Nsangou wasn’t in the last England u15 squad as he’d opted for Poland , it looks like that’s still the case. Which is probably no bad thing at this stage , while it’s difficult to keep his talent under wraps it’s a bit easier if he’s not in the England squad spotlight.
