Everton Youth Teams Thread

I'd see Kenny as a defensive midfielder, much like Barry but doesn't have the passing instincts of Barry, that's not to say he doesn't have the passing skills, he just doesn't have the instinct to hit 40 yard balls like Barry.

He's tenacious, determined and a bloody good last ditch defender like Jagielka, always getting in blocks and tackles. Loud mouth on him too, always makes for a useful defender!

@england: GOAL: Serdar cuts inside and fires past Woodman, but Kenny handles on the line and receives red. Owusu levels from spot on 47 mins. 1-1

@england: FT Germany 2-3 England U19s: @sheyi_ojo, @DomSolanke & @Ains_7 secure the win for the 10 men. @garystonehouse's report to follow...

The Young Lions lacked their usual zip, as the German midfield pressed well to hold England back for spells but Freddie Woodman was called into action to save a fierce drive from Ochs and Kenny produced a brave diving block to deny the same man at the back post.
...
Germany had flown out of the traps and Suat Serdar cut inside Tafari Moore down the left and struck a powerful drive past Woodman, but Kenny prevented the goal with his hand on the line. The referee was left with no option but to give the on-loan Wigan Athletic right-back his marching orders and award a penalty, which Prince-Osei Owusu converted to level.
....
Callum Connolly, on at left back on 57minutes to replace Roberts after Solanke’s strike, carried the ball forward down the left and enjoyed some nice interplay with Maitland-Niles. The Ipswich Town loanee was then allowed the freedom of the park to turn and pick his spot, as he unleashed a thunderous strike into the top corner from 25 yards.

Because most keepers don't become PL class until they are much older. Keepers prime tends to be about 5 years later than outfield positions. So it's going to be even rarer to see a GK come through an academy to the first team without leaving and playing quite a bit in the lower divisions IMO.

I can see your viewpoint but for me personally, if your good enough you will be picked. Joe Hart & Courtois 2 examples of young goalkeepers who have secured number 1 positions whilst very young ( though Hart was signed from a lower division club ).

For whatever reason we've signed some kids who just haven't got what it takes to be kept on or haven't been given a chance. Ruddy only played once for us and he was superb after coming on for Ian Turner who was sent off. We beat Blackburn 1-0 and I thought to myself we may have a goodun on our hands. Unfortunately he didn't get another sniff of a chance but he ain't done too bad for himself.

For a club that produces a lot of talent, it would be nice to find a top keeper. Maybe it's more a case there really isn't much out there to choose from because everyone wants to be scoring goals. When I was a kid no one wanted to go in goal except me, but that was easy because my hero was Neville Southall. I reckon there's a fair few of us on here who dreamt of being a keeper because of Neville. Don't think there will be many kids these days saying they want to be the next Tim Howard or Joel Robles though lol

Hmm I was stood next to the guy tweeting! Never seen him before so assumed he was Stoke :lol:

Good win for the young blues, Yarney played well at centre half, agile and quick like Yobo was but without the brain farts. Beningame in midfield was feisty and snappy and launched a few attacks after winning possssion. Bramall was lively on the ball, quite direct.

Brewster and Evans took their goals well, caught Stoke out half a dozen times with through balls but couldn't finish most of them.

When you consider we didn't play Holland, Yates, Davies, Dyson, Ledson, Dowell, Walsh, Thorniley, Connolly, Lavery (plus countless others) it shows what a strong group we have at U18 level.

Have they won every game so far this season?
