Everton Youth Teams Thread

But for example Dowell seems to be ahead of Henen even though Henen is older. Likewise Ledson seemed to be ahead of Lundstram even though the latter was on loan and older.

......sorry, I thought you said if every 1st team squad player was unavailable. If that was the case I presume Henen and Dowell might play. I think Lundstrum has left the club.

i don't think dowells ahead of him, yet but they did want him to get some first team experience.

Henen been injured for a bit this pre-season so he would have got a tad bit of game time with first team if he wasnt

How big is Kenny? Does he have the size for CB in the prem?

think he's about the same height as Coleman mate, last time i saw him he was really sleight of build though in the under 17's Euros for England, dunno if he's bulked out a little since then though, but he's as natural a attacking rb as you could wish for really. Personally unless he grows and fills out massively no chance of playing cb

We seem to have plenty of cover coming through for centre backs.sounds we need a couple of full backs to start making their claim.massive boots to fill are seamies and bainseys though

Well all our young defenders have played full back recently . Four central defenders have played full back, Galloway, Browning, Pennington and Holgate. We have another five who you would class as full backs, though Connolly ( left back) also plays other positions, plus Robinson (LB), Jones , Kenny , Yates all right back. Add in Garbutt and you have potentially 10 , 6 RB , 4 LB . Of the "pure" full backs( I.e. That's the position I think they ll end up in) Garbutt, Robinson, Connolly, Kenny, Yates are all very effective attacking FBs at their current level. Jones less so but solid non the less. So full back is not a position I have too many concerns about, we have a system we play and our youngsters are taught to play that way, some of them will come through to replace Bainsy/Seamus.

I'm sure this has been covered before but why can we not nurture a keeper? We must have the requisite coaches, no?

It's a great question mate and I think it's something that a lot of PL clubs have struggled with. In fact a lot of clubs full stop have always struggled with. It's a tough position and it takes a certain someone to want to be a keeper.
