Everton Youth Teams Thread

So Gordon , two goals , two assists and played a part in the other goal. We’ve seen Davis and Walsh dominate games at this level, but not score much though Walsh’s memorable halfwayliner comes to mind. Dowell coming back from injury scored some great goals but rarely affected the game apart from his goals. This kid is so sharp, he’s scoring and assisting others , that 3rd goal was a superb team effort.
City scored a couple of good passing goals too, they may have been weakened by that U19 Champions League competition but still looked a good side. As ever , we need to reel in the expectations , he’s 16 and it was an u18match , but 10 goals so far is impressive tally from an attacking midfielder . Every so often we get the “ can’t be arsed watching the Youth or reading anything about them but whose the next big thing ?” type post. I guess we have a potential answer .

Gordon is a bit special isn't he?

...Fraser Hornby as well looks a talent. Hope he can have a clear run of games. Love watching Gordon, perhaps influenced by my favourite ever Everton player having similar hair.

Without getting too far ahead, I think the last game proved we don't have a like for like to replace Gana. Beningime has that potential I believe.

..he’s certainly a similar type JD. I like comparing younger players with senior players because it reflects what ‘type’ they are. Strangely enough, Gueye and Beningime both need to work on passing/possession but will have outstanding interception and tackling stats.

On the comparison theme, watching Vlasic make those runs on Sunday reminded me lots of a young Jack Wilshire.

so for instance had we had a Beningame (or similar) on the bench, we could have taken Gana off with the yellow and not risked him getting a second and a red. But we really didn't have a choice did we?

I'm trying to think who Vlasic reminds me of...I want to say Aaron Ramsey, but I don't watch Arsenal enough to be totally sure of that comp.

..,you have to think Schneiderlin, Besic and McCarthy are ahead of Beningime in the queue. My son said to me at HT Gueye was a sending off waiting to happen so yes, it wouldn’t have been rocket science to replace him with a similar type. Indeed, Gueye was outstanding up to the first yellow but was then playing in 2nd gear.
