Gordon makes it 3-2 Everton on 57 mins-his 2nd of the game

The lads a machine, get him in the 23's for the odd game.

The lad looks a massive talent. Isn't that something like 10 in 7 for the u18s now? Impressive for a midfielder. He looked very good in that tournament over the summer too.

Everton completed a great 5-3 win v the previously unbeaten man city who had 5 wins from 5 games played, conceeding 6 goals only,Mampala with 1,Gordon with 2 to stay the leagues top scorer,Hornby with 2 were the scorers, this was after the last weeks 5-1 win at sunderland,Everton stay in 3rd place 1 point from top placed man city but having played 2 games more

Next u18s game is v swansea home friday night at 6pm v swansea in the premier league u18s cup
next league game is away to newcastle in 4 weeks time
Brilliant result against arguably the best u18 team in the country .didn't a couple of everton players end up at city's academy think Corrigan was one, probably around this age group now.gordon seems the standout player scoring a lot of goals but doesn't seem the typical centre forward more need I say it a no 10 looks to have two good feet well balanced can see a pass ,will be Interesting to see how he progresses

With all the doom and gloom around the first team. Credit to the under 18s and under 23s for their good starts to the season. Gordon looks to be building on the form shown in that summer tournament we won.

Vaughn, Baxter & Rodwell were 16 when they made their debuts. And a load of 17yr olds were playing regular for Everton. You never know how careers are going to pan out. Times have changed not many 16 & 17 yrs olds get game time in the prem these days

Paul scholes wasn't a regular at Utd til he was 22, just saying

..yep. I’m not pushing the lad, he’s not even an U23 debutant. I’m just saying the very special ones can get game time at a young age. He looks a bit good, Happy with that for now.

I like the fact he is scoring all these goals without the massive physical advantage some players have at this age, looks fast too. 10 goals so far already and he isn't even an out and out striker.

I think his physical frame will hold back his progression at the moment. He looks to have the build of a young David Beckham. He is progressing fine where he is and i'd keep him there. Maybe training with the under 23s now and again, but he is certainly one to look out for in the future.

..I’m a bit old school, I prefer the lads who are better to be pitted against older players. It can all get too comfortable in their own age group.

I was fortunate to play representative schoolboy football and then youth with a professional club and from 15 I rarely played in my age group. I saw Rooney at 15 playing for Everton U18s and he was a stand out. I get your point about physicality, though. There’s no right or wrong. There was a goal in the 2nd half of that big away win where Gordon out muscled the defender. He wanted it more. I was more chuffed with that than the fancy things.

I reckon we both like him lots.

I notice he’s a February born, so he’s in the middle of his age group. It makes his progress more impressive. If (like me) you’re a September born it’s a huge advantage in schoolboy/youth football.

Who am I to judge how Everton should nurture Gordon? They seem to most things right within the academy shake up, with regard to the development of young players.
It's just a shame so much emphasis in the premier league is based on physicality and pace. Whereas it can be argued technical ability and skill to be the barometer of player's ability in the likes of La Liga.
I'm sure Everton are pushing him so he doesn't get too comfortable and in his comfort zone that you referred to. I am great believer you don't have to watch a player numerous times to see if he 'has it'. Gordon stood out the first time I saw him in that summer tournament and pleasingly judging by his goal scoring efforts, performances and assists, he looked to have kicked on this season.

There's a lot of sense in this. Brewster and Broadhead dominated the under 18's league but as yet have underwhelmed at a higher level (though Broadhead did well at City the other day, though I worry he lacks a yard of pace). Dowell didn't play much under 18's but was always further along.

I like Gordon from what I see. There was a lot of talk of Ellis Simms but Gordon has stolen the show. I keep an eye on Collins as well who looks a well built left sided centre back. Gordon looks like he has skills which will stand him in good stead as he moves up an age, he has good positional awareness and likes to score goals.

It’s funny mate how we see different things from thatgoal you mention, after Gordon had shrugged off the defender I was impressed with his turn of speed over 20 yards to leave him for dead and set up the goal. It’s only u18s and who knows just how slow the defender was but it was encouraging to see he has a bit of pace too.
One advantage of his February birthday is that he’s eligible for England U17s ( the current ones in the World Cup are effectively u18s) which should help in future years as they use Jan 1st as criteria.

Physicality is an interesting one as people have different views on it. If you haven’t got a bit of physicality it can be the difference in making it at PL level, equally if physicality is the only thing that makes you stand out at youth level then you get found out when you play against men the same size. You’d have to think that Unsy will play Anthony Gordon in the U23s at some time, no need to rush his development but he’s looking like he’s ready to play against older and bigger players.
