Everton Youth Teams Thread

Hmm, not sure , you’ve seen the size of the three centre backs England U17s use, Guelhi, Panzo , Latiebiere , excuse spellings. , I thought Gibson was a decent size but he cant get in the team. I’m not saying they are bad players , they’re good I’m just not sure how much is down to their size at 17.

Oh yeh not saying it's completely gone but I've noticed a change. I was going to comment on the last England U17 game with that Panzo at left-back. We do seem to produce a lot of these solid faux-full backs like him. Whatever happened to the Ashley Cole types?

...true, but by the time they’re 19 things level out a bit. I do agree that there seems a seed change in the emphasis on quality but it’s good if that is aligned with athleticism.

Not sure about who was a stand out in our team, I continue to think the Coach could be the star?
He continually ticks boxes, if he was a foreign coach then I'm certain his profile would improve his chances.

..yep, liked how Beningime and Adeniran worked in tandem. I like Feeney, 3-0 up and it still mattered for him to get back and get that header off the line. I like things like that.

Very excited by the Beni-Adeniran partnership. I thought true central midfielders had died out and god forbid we’d ever see two of them holding the middle of the pitch together. Seems nowadays you need 3, 4, hell 5 midfielders clogging up the centre of a pitch to succeed. I know the game changes but some of the best teams I’ve seen managed with two: Keane & Scholes, Vieira & Petit, Leicester’s title season.

Quite tired of midfielders being shoehorned into either an attacking mid or a defensive mid. Why can’t you be both? Tonight and the last couple of times I’ve seen them they’ve displayed power, disciplined, energy and an ability to play. Exciting times.

I loved the way Unsy set them up , on paper I thought it was going to be 4231, having two upfront was great Baxter got into the game and perhaps most impressively Evans stuck to his task well out on the right. Not his natural or even best position , wasn’t particularly outstanding but I thought he did well helping to close down City’s attacks and hitting a tremendous ball with his left foot to Henen to set up the first goal.
I would imagine there were a number of scouts there tonight looking at players for January loans and a number of them
showed that they could be good team players in football league teams.

Yeh Evans shift was really impressive as I was a little worried they’d target Markelo who has barely played in England and is still only 18 (I think?). Thought the strikers was really needed as it forced their deepest midfielder to always collect from the keeper - the City way - but that also pretty much took him out of the game and left us 2v1 in the middle where we dominated.

Heard rumours Solanke wanted a lot more than £25k at Chelsea and same with that Christiansen.

No idea about Solanke and how far along he was, but it's a wee bit different for Christensen. 80 odd appearances in two years on loan at Gladbach. Fair dinkum to ask for higher wages if they want to keep him on the bench when he was starting weekly at a Bundesliga side.

No no, the Christensen stuff was before they sent him out on loan.

Edit: Scrap that he was just on £20k at 18 not asking for more. Solanke was the one.
