The first half of that match had all the hallmarks we have come to expect from Everton in recent times: no pressure on the ball when not in possession, poor defending, and slowness going forward with too many sideways/backwards passes. The second half showed some of the positive characteristics that we have displayed all too rarely this season - quick tempo and fluid play when breaking forward, but was marred by poor finishing, and by the now classic Everton trick of conceding goals in injury time.
Positives we can take from this:
1. Martinez is definitely going
2. Lukaku has hardly put himself in the shop window that effectively missing so many chances. Hopefully he will stick around into next season when he will be helping Everton mount a title challenge.
