What a bizarre game.

Despite having no defence and a midfield that can't control or pass the ball we created more than enough chances to win this game.

I am forced to ask what the hell work does Silva and his coaches do on team shape and countering transition throughout the week.

But the strangest thing is that I've now got to the stage where I am really not that bothered. Previously a defeat would ruin the weekend and sour the week ahead now I CBA.

I feel sorry for younger fans - at least I saw 2 title winning great teams.

Now I fear we will never see those days again.
Has Everton under Johnson and Kenwright just worn me down or is it a generational thing.

@Eggs is about the same vintage - do you still feel passionate about this lot?

Fairs.

Gylfi could easily have got a 4, but he did score and in the second half at least looked like he was willing to try and make things happen.

On the evidence of the 2nd half he can't play in a 2 man midfield.

Personally I don't think he shows enough quality or creativity to play No.10.

His set pieces were terrible.

He's definately not the biggest problem but I genuinely don't think we are good enough to accomodate a player of his type at present.

Frustrated with the result but unfortunately we are going to have to be patient. Until we have a settled team and in particular a settled back 4 we are going to struggle.

I just hope the majority of the fan base is patient with Silva. We might have another miserable season but in 12 months things will look alot different.

Proper weird match that one, really could have gone either way, you'd have won that if it was Duncan Ferguson up there instead of Tosun/Niasse.

I'd just like to say as well what a pleasure it was to be in a proper football stadium. Despite having a 'restricted' view it was still miles easier to watch than at the toilet bowl.

I thought we won the midfield battle yesterday, Rice looks class every time he plays and Noble had support. Our front 3 are deadly on the break too but still miles off the team we aspire to be.

I am very envious of both your full-backs and I reckon Silva was asking too much of them. Digne in particular has a wand of a left foot on him, as much as he was caught upfield for the first goal, he seemed to be under instructions to be very high up the pitch swinging crosses in.

I thought Bernard looked very tidy when he came on although has a snidey side to him.

You guys will be alright come the end of the season, Richarlison back now and you will outscore most teams at home although the defence needs work and perhaps more midfield protection.

Fair play to Schneiderlin for playing as well, clearly not in the right frame of mind but he went out there and gave it a go and I felt sorry him.

These guys need a bit of time with Silva, to develop as a 'team'. In the main, I have only two concerns

a) Lack of character in defence / midfield. We don't dominate / compete in those areas as strongly us we did in the Moyes era

b) Nothing to really frighten teams up front beyond Richarlison

Jags, Baines represent the last of the Moyes era that epitomized character, over perhaps the quality we had individually (not to overlook the quality of BD, Arteta, Lescott, Jags, Yak, Coleman and Pienaar et al). Jags and Baines are done and have done a great job.

But I really don't see the next wave coming through and don't see the 'man' in any of our CD or CM to dominate and get us on our front foot in this current crop. McCarthy, MS, Jags, Baines should move on this year, so there's a big opportunity for the guys that want those spaces. I don't think Davies is showing it right now, and Sigs doesn't have that 'snap' to his game. Gana's not a ball carrier but his work rate is notable, and deserves his berth.

Up front, I'm glad Mirallas has gone, but we've nothing really beyond nippy Walcott and Richarlison who looks genuine. We need to make a commitment to Lookman if we believe in him. I don't see it, but wish him all the best as a young English player and it'd be great if can produce to his potential here. Tosun is struggling to be a good enough quality target man for these guys, and all three need that.

So... lots more trimming to do in this squad, 6 from 5 given our opening games is not good enough and we look fragile.
