As poor as Ossie's mistake was he's still a decent player. The reaction to him here is a bit over the top. It was only two games ago were he opened the scoring and played well against Fulham. I think Martinez called it spot on despite how badly it backfired. You just can't account for those sort of freak mistakes. It's especially ironic considering its normally Osman's close control that is his biggest asset. Hopefully the rest of the team will be hungry to put this right on Sunday.
Nonetheless, I agree it's a devastating three points to lose out on..
Well said. What I think a lot of people overlook is that is it not so much Osman coming on but Barkley missing that makes us look so much worse in the matches where Osman plays. Barkley runs the show and is the main reason we've had so many positive results this season.
...then let him keep on running the show until his form drops.
Do 20 year olds get tired playing footy ?
Entirely fair comment that.
No matter how much I try and think of a mitigating case for Roberto (who is still El Bosso of bosses, obviously) I just cant find one for that massive blunder.
He tried to be resourceful by taking a gamble on leaving Barkley out to prepare for S'ton but the decision came back to bite him.

He wanted to give Barkley a rest. It didn't work out, but we have a squad and need to use them. I doubt it'll be the last league game this season that Osman starts and Barkley's rested. In an ideal world we'd start with our best 11 for every game, but in reality that's not practical. When Baines is fully fit again I can see times when he'll be rested for Oveido. If Jelavic could hit a barn door we'd be resting Lukaku occassionally. If Gibson was fit then McCarthy or Barry would be rested now and then. When the Spanish kid is back we'll see the same. It's part of modern day football, especially when you're playing more than one game a week.
Well done to Sunderland. They took advantage of a c^ck up and looked fairly comfortable, mostly restricting us to long range shots. We had a bad day at the office. It was bound to happen sooner or later. Even the balls up between Howard and Osman was bound to happen at some time ( not necessarily with Osman ). It's just a risk associated with the way we're playing football as opposed to hoofball. We've got away with it in similar situations in other games this seasons but today we were punished.
Bring on Soton, gives us chance to get it right.
It is atm though isn't it? Besides the absence of Deulofeu we can do exactly that. When they fall away you take the chance to slot players in.
It wasn't broken and needn't have been fixed.
Barkley in all the time until he loses form. It cant be that controversial a notion to accept.
