"We have to remember that Sunderland came well organised,” Martinez said. “They had a solid structure behind the ball.

“But I thought the second half performance was terrific. We put Vitor Mannone’s goal under a lot of pressure. We didn’t get any points but performances like that will get us positive results over the course of the season.

“The players showed an incredible attitude and tactical understanding to cope with the numerical disadvantage. We created numerous chances and had 11 corners, but the only critical aspect is that we need to score goals when we get those sort of situations.

“We have to cope with it, move on and I do feel that we are stronger as a team after that performance.”

The lord of the manor has spoken.

Apparently we cant complain mate, because it was unfortunate.

He'd never start another game again if I had my way.

Absolutely appalling mate and fully deserves all the criticism coming his way.

He's turned into a joke of a player.

I actually thought we gave that game a better go than the Fulham game but it was just one of those days. Credit to Sunderland though, they played decent, their keeper had a great game and Poyet got his tactics spot on.

Osman is an utter joke of a player. Can't believe he actually made it as a footballer. School boy error.

Oviedo was my MOTM.

And I thought Joel's display was very promising. He looked fine.

Yep. Lord of the manor indeed.

I have to say, though, he exhibited false economy there today by gambling to rest Barkley...i the end the red card has led to the remaining players having to pull their tripes out and knackering themselves for the next game.

You missed a 'catalan clown' out there somewhere

Moyes persistence with model pro first on the training pitch last one off it Neville was a big factor in us missing top 4 last season the amount of points we dropped down to his ****e performances, this season Martinez is in danger of doing the same with the other model pro first on the training pitch last one off it Osman. disgusting result today and shambolic from Martinez I would of rathered he played Mirallas as the CAM and Naismith on the wing if in his divine wisdom we had to rest ross (when we never had too)

Mirallas was ill mate. Would have made little difference overall

not from KO mate it astounds me how Martinez who being such a forward thinking manager cant see Osman hasn't the legs or ability to play a full 90 mins anymore. Palace, Spurs and Sunderland Ossie started all 3 games and we have picked up just 2 points drawing 2 and losing 1. That's not good enough and its not a coincidence either
