I just cant handle that defeat there, atm. I know we've done brilliantly all season and Martinez is that cat's pyjamas...I know all that. But **** me that was a massive kick in the bollocks on a day that should have been all about consolidating our place in the top five. Now we have United and Newcastle on our shirt tails and it was down to Martinez's faith in a player who isn't starting line up material...never in a million years...and especially when you have the best player in the country there to keep the feller out of the line up.

Copy book blotted Senor.

Mate, it could have easily been Barkley giving it away there. It happens.

I'm with you though, ruined Christmas.

OBSERVATIONS

1. Would never have lost that game with 11 men.

2. You cannot legislate for the red card/ penalty incident.

3. Osman was to blame for receiving the ball "blind"; should've been more aware and received it side on.

4. Howard barely touched Ki, if at all.

5. Referee was poor all round.

6. Unfortunate not to get a point (or even all three) based on the second half.

7. Mannone played the game of his life.

8. We were slightly overly-reliant on Barkley's long shots, albeit the majority of these being very good.

9. We showed great character and spirit in our second half performance.

10. We really went for it, but just couldn't break them down.

11. We'll miss Barry for Southampton (and Howard for the next 3).

Red card means Howard only miss a match...I think.

how the **** could he foresee osman/howards mistake. it was something that happens once in a decade.

I was also a bit bemused to see Osman starting ahead of Barkley, but with three games in seven days, it made sense, especially as we were facing the bottom team today and even with Osman should have had more than enough to win this game. However, WTF was Howard doing passing it out down the middle when he could see Ki coming up to press Osman, and WTF was Osman doing there in the first place? Two brain farts and that was the difference today. Glad to see the others never let their heads drop and their keeper saved them at least two points.

Play Barkley deeper against Southamton, Mirallas behind Lukaku and dare I say it Naismith on the right, basically what I'm saying is dont play Osman. I'd even prefer us sticking Pienaar on the right and playing Baines and Oviedo down the left.

12. We lost at home to bottom of the league

I know I am knee jerking all over the shop here but I can not help it

Just know by 7pm its going to be much worse

48 Hour media black out for me

Oviedo, barkley and seamus are three very dangerous players. Love watching them.

Barry was slow and out of it a bit in first half but found a reserve of energy somewhere to put in a solid display. Pienaar was blowing chunks...maybe not fully fit.

Plenty of positives from this! COYB!

It was a penalty, may not have been very much contact but it was still a penalty. We would have been screaming had we had a decision like that not given.

Think we were unlucky. Didn't play in the first half. Lukaku looked much better today, but lacked the service due to Sunderland's 11-men behind the ball and Everton's 10 men on the pitch.

Ultimately gutted by the result, but can't feel sorry for ourselves, need to rally the troops and get 3pts against Soton.
