What if they get injured in training, you don't run a football team like that, you put the strongest side out when you can.

Again I see where you're coming from, it's what's been the done thing for Premiership clubs for years but we shouldn't.

Agree to disagree here I think mate haha
fair enough but the risk of getting injured in a competitive cup game against poorer quality players trying extra hard to make a name for themselves on TV is faaar greater than picking up a knock in training.

Again you're assuming league two players are out to injure people and it's simply not true.

Not putting out your strongest available side in one of the 2 realistic chances of a pot is even sillier to be fair. We aren't a club in a position to be turning our noses up at a trophy.

Don't get me wrong I fully understand where you are coming from but I've had enough of this barren spell now, we have manager who wins stuff why half his chances off the bat.

You're talking as if fielding a second XI will make defeat a fait accompli; it won't. Carlo needs more than 11 players to rely on this season, if we are indeed to challenge on multiple fronts. Early stages of cup competitions are pretty much the only time you can rotate to any great extent, while facing little risk.

Of course, it COULD blow up on us, but then as you've already said our first XI could suffer a shock defeat, or win but pick up injuries/niggles.

We all want to progress, and to win trophies. Me personally, I'd rather be through to the next round, with some fringe players giving Carlo something (positive) to think about, and our best players rested and ready to go, to trounce the Baggies at the weekend.

I think people are of the mindset that league two players don't know how to play football without breaking a mans legs. James needs matches for fitness and sharpness.

Let's see who turns out I guess. I just want us taking this seriously, playing a second string is not doing that.

But I want James on the pitch on Saturday. He's not played football for months, only trained a few times for us, I don't want him playing 3 matches in a week.

That's all that matters at the end of the day mate

I want him on the pitch saturday, why wouldn't he be if he plays tonight? He's a professional athlete with all the best fitness/diet/nutrition/strength and conditioning available but he can't play 3 games in a week?

I don't think he is, tbf, mate. Players, no matter what level they play at, have a great deal of pride. James sends a big CB for the paper one too many times, while his team are 4-0 down, and there's no guarantee he won't want to "put one on him" out of revenge.

Teams that lack quality vs their opposition will often use "physicality" to try to make up part of the gap. Once that's in play, it's a fine line between roughing up your opponent and getting under their skin, and knackering them for a spell.

He's a professional footballer, he doesn't need wrapping in cotton wool, he needs to and probably wants to play.

We all want the same thing lads.

I dont think they're out to injure people but I do think that the first thing their manager tells them is to give us no time on the ball, don't give us too much respect, go in hard to win possession. What they lack in quality, they'll make up for in aggression and determination. If it's 0-0 after 60 mins, sure throw on Richarlison or DCL, otherwise, use this opportunity to let squad players show why they shouldn't be shipped out before the deadline.

Silverware is a must this year regardless of which Cup it is. get that monkey off our back would be massive
I get that, but we are talking about getting entry into the modern Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. Top Four and CL is what we should be aiming for.
