The first of 3 Home games on the bounce sees us welcome Championship side Rotherham United in The Carabao Cup, a team that managed to gain promotion via the playoffs last season. They currently find themselves just above the relegation places, after a start of 1 win and 3 defeats so far, they play today at 12.30(Sunday) in case anybody wants to check them out.

It will be the first time VAR has been used at Goodison Park, which should make things very interesting. Also with the changes to the competition this season the match if level at 90minutes will go straight to a penalty shoot out.

They should not be taken lightly of course, but its difficult to predict what sort of side we will play, few little niggles in the squad and of course we have 2 players serving a suspension, I would probably go with something like this, it would depend on the fitness of certain players and I know people like us to field a first team, I just feel that some players need a run out and some players would benefit from a rest.

Goats 11 to start :
Pickford
JJK - Zouma - Holgate - Digne
Gana - Davies
Dowell
Lookman - DCL - Bernard
COYB
As he's not banned for this game I think Richarlison will probably start

The Echo:

Richarlison is set to miss Everton's next three games after being sent off against Bournemouth.

The Brazilian was shown a red card for a clash with Cherries defender Adam Smith, moving his head towards his opponent's.

With the dismissal constituting violent conduct, the Blues star will be handed a three-match suspension.

Everton are allowed to appeal but if it is not overturned, the 21-year-old will be absent for home matches with Rotherham, Huddersfield and West Ham.

The forward - who has netted three goals for the Blues so far this season - will next be eligible for the trip to Arsenal on the 23rd September.

The games Richarlison will miss:

Rotherham (H) - August 29

Huddersfield (H) - September 1

West Ham (H) - September 16

I'm sure the rules changed so that bans only count towards competition they were awarded in?

May have been that yellows are seperated within each competition instead thoguh

Pickford
Coleman - Holgate - Zouma - Digne
Gana - Schneiderlin - Sigurdsson
Lookman - Niasse - Bernard

I want to really have a go for both cups this year. They're there to be won.

Obviously you need to make a few changes. That back four should be carried into the Huddersfield game and after Saturday I'd give Tosun and Walcott a rest.

Other than that though.

........... I always remember big Nev saying it's stupid to rotate keepers and that he always wanted to play. I find it a bit odd myself that some clubs will have "Cup Keepers" and "League Keepers".

Cup keepers is the biggest nonsense in footy. You should only have a designated “cup keeper” if you’re a top club with bigger competitions on your plate, or you have two keepers of relatively similar ability level that can actually provide competition for one another.

Yep. Possibly the only other scenario would be if one keeper is significantly better at keeping out penalties over another, so they may be better suited for a cup competition. I remember in the 2014 World Cup van Gaal brought on Tim Krul I think it was, solely for a penalty shoot-out in a play-off game, he saved a couple of pens and Holland went through. Masterstroke.
