Probably a little overboard in my complaint based off of reading two pages of arguing over Ross in the MDT (cheers Esk!). I agree with the posters above, a big win over stoke and we could be sitting above Liverpool and possibly closer to 7th than 11th. Unfortunately, the top four is pulling itself away (which is frustrating since this season will have a taste of missed opportunity, especially when looking at Chelsea and Man U possibly missing out).

Hopefully we get things sorted in the back and we don't drop as many points the rest of the season and end up around the 6-7 range. With a good cup run and the knowledge of a new goalie coming I'd only be back to worrying about holding onto our core and the outlook could be a little more positive going into next season.

I thought he caused a lot of our counter attacks to break down when we were under a little pressure and his distribution isnt very good. In general a poor player.

But thats the beauty of football. We all see different things

He did a couple of times, yeah. I just thought he won some balls that he had no right to win, and if it was Lukaku who did the same performance as Kone yesterday he would get no grief or anything. He wasn't brilliant don't get me wrong, but we certainly improved going forward in the second half and I think it's only fair to recognise Kone for his good bits (even with all his bad bits this season).

Guy who sits in front to the right of me in the Upper Bullens. In Martinez' first season all he would do is slate Lukaku, last season too. Left right and centre, most people around him agree to the point one person infront of ihm turned around and said 'Have you ever said anything positive?'

Last night, we played well, Kone, YES he should scored the first one, the second I have sympathy for, played well despite this. He allowed more space for others, his movement was good, he looked alot more up for it than Lukaku did (especially if Lukaku was in pain, not surprising). The guy wouldn't listen to the point of Kone has allowed for others to be better, he won balls that he had no right of winning.

Alot of the time Kone does himself no favours, but I thought he was a really positive impact last night, and no matter what the guy would slate him, unwarranted. Barkley, who had a good game last night still made some small mistakes, when Kone made the exact same mistake, he was up screaming 'YOUR 'EFFING' 'rubbish' lad.' (to clean it up). Barkley at one point ran into a wall of 3 players, a mistake, forgiveable ofcourse, but according to this guy Barkley is uncriticisable and can't be blamed when he always has 2/3 players on him... He then ignored the point of, well Kone has 2/3 players on him and you scream if he doesn't keep it..

The guy, now he can't hate Lukaku, has to slate Kone regardless of how well he does for the team. It's getting tiring every game listening to his patronising contradictory nonsense. He believes he's got a more valuable 'opinion' cause he has been going for 50 years... I've been going for almost 20, I've seen just as much crap play in Blue as him.

I just don't get it. We've played really well, we've controlled the game, we've created chances, defended really well, keeper has commanded his area. Everything was positive and I didn't believe any player played poorly. We did all of this while looking short of confidence ourselves.
I've taken a few non blues to the match as we've had a spare ticket, all of them can't believe how negative and narrow minded he is.

His answer to 'Who would you have instead of Martinez?' was... 'Anyone'... That's not an answer, that's nonsense, If you can't justify his sacking and replacement then you can't argue it.

I know he doesn't represent MOST blues, but christ I can see why the players look 'out of confidence' when playing at Goodison if theres more of him lurking around.

Apologies for the rant, it's just increasingly frustrating watching Everton at home and listening to this guy speak as if he hates every inch of Everton football club, regardless of performance.

but I just can't grasp how any blue can be unhappy with that last night. Dislike Kone all you like, he wouldn't be my first choice either, but christ at least recognise when he has had an impact on a team. We didn't create much in the first half, second half we could have had 4/5.

Shout out to Oviedo who was my MOTM, dealt with Townsend every time, whenever he got a yard, managed to close it down. Best performance for him in a blue shirt for me.

Don't take it personal mate.
Some males just need a place to vent all the frustrations in their life.
A footy ground is pretty harmless really.

I thought Cleverley was great yesterday as well. He had one shot that was barely saved and had great pace without the ball as well. Oviedo filled in nicely, and it's nice to see the Tico stay in blue. Loved how the players reacted to Lennon's goal. Like it was said earlier in this thread, the players seem to really like him. Also thought it was funny that Funes Mori almost knocked Seamus in the face while jumping into the pile to celebrate the goal.. not sure if anyone caught that.

One thing though, and it may be in my head, but it doesn't feel like the crowd at Goodison is singing as much. There are times when it seems a rowdy group will break out in song in frustration because other fans just don't. It happened once I think, and it sounded like fellow Evertonians getting at each other's throats about supporting the team. Maybe it's just me and I am only "noticing" this because we've been underperforming lately. I also watch the games on U.S. T.V., and I am not actually there, so this could all be just a bunch of crap that I am talking.

Either way, I couldn't stop cheering, smiling, and running around in my house during yesterday's game. There are very few things in life that make you feel the way an Everton win does!

I think that we've put in some good performances recently without getting the results that we deserved.

Whilst we played far better than Newcastle last night, I didn't think the overall performance was much changed. It was just the final result that was better.

We should have scored a second goal much earlier in the game, and with Lukaku perhaps we would. It would have avoided the tense ending and the chance of a Mitrovic equaliser.

I'm pleased to see Robles get a chance at last but, against such a feeble attack, I doubt that a change of goalkeeper made any difference at all to the team.

The unsung players were very good last night for me....Oviedo was outstanding all game. Up against a very physically strong Sissoko and a potentially decent player (not last night obviously) in Townsend he defended superbly well. He has a fantastic attitude and the sooner we get the lad contracted the better. Tom Cleverley was very good (again) and gives you 90 minutes every game....very tidy and technically good. Gaz Baz is like a watch....just keeps (us) ticking. And, our Ivorian Prince made a big difference when he came on for the second 45....strong, held the ball up well and brings others into play.
Aaron Lennon....excellent performance and an attitude the Kevin Mirallas could take note of.
Robles...commanding, even with that second half punch, and constantly talking to the back four. What a refreshing change that must be for them.

As good as Ross was (and he was very, very good) Bryan Oviedo was MOM last night. After that horrific injury and the set back it's great to see him enjoying his football and making such a positive contribution.

I don't know about its effect in the team Stanley, but the crowd was euphoric at the change in goalkeeoer.

And I hate having to write that......Tim Hiward has been a good servant to the club and it is is sad his time with us is ending in this fashion.

But he didn't and we won three nil mate. Barkley being man of the match and stepping up to take responsibility for the two pens, one of which he won. That's on top of his hitting the woodwork (Barkley involved again) multiple times which was closer than Mitrovic's missed shot, which also happened to be Newcastles only real chance in the game.

Apologies for me missing your point but I'm struggling here.[/QUO
Where is the Stoke preview. Enjoyed the Newcastle one so much I am becoming impatient for your next offering

Fortunately for Stones I think he's straight back in (if fit) against Stoke, as Mori was arguably our worst player against Newcastle. I just really, really, really hope that Robles keeps his place as he deserves to. Putting Howard back in would be the ultimate insult, not just to Robles but to the fans, too. Thought Oviedo was exceptional last few weeks, and hope he keeps his place on the left even if Baines is fit. Leighton hasn't been the same for ages now, highlighted by his lack of goals and assists and general mobility.

I'll go with Robles; Coleman, Jagielka, Stones, Oviedo, and the half direct style of play they adopted against Newcastle.

Funes Mori is the best celebrator when we score...he literally mobs them. Did it last night when Aaron scored.

I've only seen the celebration once but there's a moment where he leaps onto the crowd of players celebrating but then glances across quickly at I think it's Gareth Barry, as if to say "Ooops, I've gone in a bit strong here haven't I?"

It made me laugh anyway.
