Thoughts on the game:

-Coleman was the man of the match. Fantastic defensively and got forward and linked up really well. He definitely needs to be matched up with Mirrelas or Dela in front of him so the attack can come from overlapping runs and pace.

-Baines really misses Pienaar. Our options on the wing with him out just makes the left side tick a little bit off. While I have been upset to see Osman in the starting 11, he wasn't bad tonight since there was a lot less opportunity for someone to run right around him into the heart of our defense.

-Lukaku was very good and it is so nice having an actual striker, especially one who can hold up the ball. Besides his assist I was not impressed with his passing and in the second half there were a lot of turnovers he was responsible for.

-Barkley had a very good game. Not completely dominant but he seemed to play within himself more than the chelsea match. Hopefully with Lukaku he wont feel the need to have to do everything on his own. The one thing that he really needs to add to his bag of tricks is perfecting the through ball. When he has the ball at his feet going full speed, defenders are backpedalling or hacking him. Unfortunately he seems to do this with his head down and still has not taken advantage of his passing options when he is driving down the middle. Hopefully his chemeistry with Lukaku will develop and he can be setting 17 and 11 through and behind the back lines.

McCarthy- Really good game. This is the type of match that was promised when we bought him. Excellent work rate and pretty tidy on the ball. He doesn't seem to be the one to stand up and stop a player one on one (that's what Barry is for) but he always keeps the defender in front of him and he disrupts their attacks by forcing them to turn back and letting our defense get its shape. I think we have our starting middle pair (with Gibson spelling every now and then)

Mirallas- I read he picked up a knock so maybe there was a reason but I thought he should have come off at 50'. He was not doing much offensively and wasnt getting back at all. I was very frustrated seing Lukaku pick up the ball or defending right next to Coleman. (Glad to see he is willing to track back and cover) but he should never be constantly forced into that position, because Mirallas was walking around back at the other end.

Dela- He was on for about 10 minutes created two great chances and showed skill and speed to burn. I really want to get him a start with the full 11. Either on the wing or maybe Spell Baarkley if we have an easier match coming up.

There are no easy games in this League. The moment you think you have one, you lose, simple as that. But I do understand the concept of rotation is a necessity given the physical demands of a 38 game campaign (ex Cups)

Well the usual Everton showed up.

The first half Everton was fantastic. The second half Everton was, well I won't say poor but I will say they could have been much much better. Newcastle weren't going to just lay down and credit to them for pushing the game and Pardew for making the necessary changes. Cabaye made a huge difference for them.

I was very pleased with the players for the most part. Yeah, I could get nitpicky on several issues but then again, who's going to play a perfect match. That said, I do want to see Everton do something about this tendency to allow teams back into matches. They need to develop more of a killer instinct.

All in all undefeated and a very real shot at keeping our unbeaten streak against City alive !!!

Only just got home and watched the game lads. Had no idea of the score.

What was that 2nd half about then? Tosh. Luckily they defended like a pub side first half.

A win is a win, but from 3 up to win 3-2 took a bit of shine from the victory.

We have to turn the screw and play for 90 mins and then we will smash someone!

COYB!

We go top 4 after a 5 goal game and the bloody Guardian has Baines to Utd rumours as their new top story just after the game. Fkn annoying.

United get knocked out of the CL and finish outside the top 4 then he won't be joining them in january or next summer.

They no longer have the pick of the premier league, they will find out what it's like to be just another club. The lure of playing for the 'most famous club in the world' at the 'theatre of dreams' curiously loses its lustre if cl football, title challenges and the best wages don't come as part of the package.

good footy on show , second half we were on cruise control happens a lot when teams are so on top first half, we need to watch that....... Newcastle with a decent manager could have a team , full backs need sorting and they need a centre back to get stuck in, other than that they would be more than a match for most teams, think as the season goes on this result will look even better as they could shock a few teams, if they sort themselve out, get the feelling pardew knows he isnt really in control of things there and its showing on the pitch, he is a bell so i hope he stays there .

Where the effing hell did that come from?!?!?!?!

I've forgotten how happy I could feel after a half of football.

Coleman was stellar. Just stellar down the right. Defensively about as sound as I've ever seen him, and a threat up the right.
Lukaku - WOW in the first half. JUST WOW. MOTM and I loved his assist as much as I loved his goals.

Those two players were fantastic. Barkley was good too, but I thought those two players out shown the rest.

Second half was a let down as we were overrun and Newcastle put pressure on, but it was a wake up call and a good learning experience.

Hope Mirallas is okay. :(

I can't wait for this weekend!

Hey, could anyone point me to a video of the full match, I missed the first half due to work deadlines where we were apparently staggeringly good and then caught the second half where we were making hard work of it when 3-1 up. Great points anyway, agree with edge, don't think Newcastle are as much as of a push over as everyone thinks.

You'll get 20 mins on the OS, of course...

They should put the whole thing up if they possibly can. We were ace in the first half.
