Awful match, terrible atmosphere, terrible football.

Obviously it was no classic, but I'm pretty happy with how it went. Changing the tactics around and getting bodies in midfield was absolutely the right thing to do for a game like this, and it worked alright. We contained them well, gave them very few clear cut chances. We still lack a cutting edge up front, but it was encouraging to see Lennon running like a terrier for 30 minutes, quick movement, quick thinking - just the kind of qualities that we've been missing this season. Finally, it was good to see us maintaining our focus and our form for the full 90 minutes - maybe that jaunt to Qatar has done some good after all.

You are happy with 1 shot on target in a derby, at home?

But he's playing Barkley on the left all the time, Barkley gets moved all over the place to accommodate Barry and Naismith, he's got more talent in his Vick than the pair of them.

Did you see the difference Barkley made today as soon as he came on, you need talented players in that link role, that's where clubs pay big money, and Naismith is just not good enough, Naismith's attributes are finishing and work rate, not passing, not close control in tight final third situations.
Didn't watch the game today. 4.30am here. Taped it but won't waste 90 mins of my time from reading the bore fest it was in here.
If Barkley has turned the corner, then great.

Maybe, those passes from Barry was atrocious, i was mentally preparing for them to score. But still Barry did something defensively, while Naisy didn't do one thing that benefited us in any way.

All I'm saying is that i think if had another player in Barry's position today, the result would probably be the same, but if there was somebody else in No. 10 position (Ross?) we would create more, and therefore we would've had a bitter chance at winning.
Actually it was only late in the 2nd half when we moved Barry to the side of the 3 midfield alongsise Gerrard and move McCarthy to the middle did we start to cope with them. Up to that point Barry defended so deep so not to get burned it just left so much room in he middle for them to dribble into. He was awful defensively more than offensively however he did hit a couple of long passes to Lukaku.

Naismith does what Naismith always does except sometimes he scores so we blind ourselves to it.

I know they're both Martinez' favorites but I don't know how long I can support Martinez if he keeps picking them. Maybe to the summer but no longer.

We were better in the first half, but watch the 2nd half, and see how things change once Barkley comes on to affect the link up play, proper chances start to be created.

I agree, both of them are really holding us back, we should start building a team for the future already. After all it's just plain stupid to have Besic and Barkley in your squad, but don't play them/play them out of position because Barry and Naismith are apparently undroppable.

Terrible atmosphere?
Am I correct in assuming you saw the game on Sky? The atmosphere for the first quarter of the game was fantastic. After that the lack of action and incident inevitably took its toll on noise levels and it never got going again until the last quarter of an hour.

Did he play for like 5 mins? lol...may force myself to watch that ;)
Came on with about 15 to go, but you'll appreciate it more if you watch the full 2nd half.

Barkley has played most of his games on the left this season, he's wasted there, had his best game in the centre with Besic vs QPR, he's a central player, more ball he sees in tight situations the better.
