Fantastic piece of skill by Tosun when he brought down Coleman’s cross for that shot against the post. Feeling positive here.

..Sandro running around a lot but not impacting the game. We rarely get in behind but when Sandro did he wasted a good situation. Tosun is easy to mark. Sure, he’ll tuck away an opportunity but he’s not impacting the game outside the penalty area, he’s not worrying the CBs, he’s not carrying a threat.

Imagine if we had players who were a threat, players who offer more than Sandro and Tosun.

3 mins: Good interplay with Davies and Coleman.
9 mins: Fantastic corner after Mirallas' shot.
12 mins: Good first touch and pass for Jagielka to get out of tight area.
About 15 mins: Starts off the great move that sees Dowell shoot with his right.
30 mins: Dribbled his way away from the Porto player who got hurt because of it.
33 min: Won a corner.
35 min: Drifted inside, received ball from Schneiderlin, played Mirallas who should have done better.

He also hit the side-netting with a shot. All in all he's been directly involved in three of our seven chances so far. That's impacting the game for me.

Good first 30 minutes, after that we didn't manage to press them quite as high. 7 chances for us, 2 for them.

Everton 1: Mirallas shot 9 mins. Casillas save results in a corner.
Everton 2: From the following corner. Schneiderlin heads it but can't direct it towards goal. Great set-piece delivery from Sandro.
Everton 3: Dowell shot with his right foot after he feints a left foot shot first. Punched away for a corner.
Everton 4: Dowell shot with left foot after great lay back from Tosun.
Everton 6: Tosun curler from inside area. Hits post.
Porto 1: Aboubakar from close range after a good cross from our right. Stek saves.
Everton 7: Sandro shot from edge of the area after pass from Dowell, hits the side-netting.
Porto 2: Header from a corner. Stek saves. 40 mins.

(Porto obivously had a goal disallowed, but as it was (correctly) deemed offside it can't be a goalscoring chance)

...absolutely. You can see the difference Walcott and Richarlison in particular could make.

Those lofted balls out wide do my head in. They may look decent but the amount of times they end up getting to the player and the defender has closed the player down and it goes backwards because there isn't enough time to drive forward with it.

By all means do it evrry now and then but the amount of times he always hits it out to the right hand side like a wedge shot is just sign posted imo

Encouraging. Bit confirms what we already knew, that we lack cutting edge. Hopefully Sigurdsson, richarlison, Walcott improve that.

Have to agree with you there. But normally Dowell tucks away the one he god on his left foot (was there another Everton player almost in his way there?

You get the feeling that PL clubs will quickly realise that Zonal Marking with shoite defenders = lots of goals from set pieces.

We’ll just tell Mina to attack wherever the ball goes and be sorted.

Same as us then. I wonder if we manage to pick ourselves up again after the break. When given time on the ball Porto is a very good team.

I notice the tippy tapped sideward passing has ended more direct more width more attempts on goal

At least he’s passing forward again mate, he’s looked allergic to it for the past year or so.
