Are we going to be the first team EVER to occupy a champions league spot with 5 games to go but fail to qualify for Europe altogether?

It's this way forever till someone buys us mate

Even if we had got 4th this year, things would have been back to "normal" next year

New owners or new stadium. Until then, we just need to keep doing the best we can with what we have to hand, and if we're lucky, win a cup at some point

So close, yet so far. The torture that is being an Evertonian
If you do finish outside top 4 but get into the Europa league, I think that should be the priority alongside the League cup or FA cup. Winning the Europa is very realistic and will get you into the CL.

Did we play Palace or Arriva tonight?

[Poor language removed] me they brought a fleet of buses. THE most negative side I have seen at Goodison in living memory.

Also, I have never seen such an attacking line up for Everton. Even with 3 at the back (one of which being a midfielder!) we still ended up with both Stones and Distin on the wings. Incredible. We threw the kitchen sink at that tonight.

Frustrating yes, but I applaud Martinez and the team for that tonight. Light years away from the last 10 seasons.

Lol I don't think you should do that, it's not good to be superstitious. I must say though, I'm very very surprised you guys lost today, conceding 3 goals against CP at home is an open-handed slap after that formidable run of 7 wins. I wanted Everton to win today against Pulis and then drop points elsewhere instead.

Haha, I once had an everton tracksuit and every time I wore the bottoms we lost. Every single time. I remember coming home from a derby we had been beaten in thinking I cannot blame the trousers only to find my wife had them on pottering about the house! I went ballistic lol.

Marinez has avoided a traditional GOT meltdown (or so I think, only read a smidgen but what I have read seems reasonable) trading on the goodwill built up over a phenomenal first season. Liverpool game was also stomached well. Maybe this is a message for the future, in that we can be more reasonable than past would suggest given the incentive of exciting, attacking football but I heard plenty of the usual arl arses and their usual shouts, and I have to remember this is Everton - a vicious snarl forever simmers below the surface with us, and when it bursts forth, someone has to get it. He can only live on so many capitulations before a section of people turn... sadly inevitable, but thankfully so few and far between this year as to be a non-issue.

Beyond not playing McCarthy - a calculated risk with certain fixtures on the horizon in mind - and relying too heavily on irresponsible, inconsistent flair players (the kind of attacking gamble most always seem to advocate as the solution to every defensive-minded lowef end team that visits Goodison...) in the forward positions, I'm not sure what fault you could place at Martinez' door. He did a damn fine effort of salvaging the situation and we played a blinder second half until the third went in. It was a bottling performance akin to the Wigan game last year, except we didn't have to deal with an attack-minded side full of skilfull midfield runners. What we did have was a team that unabashedly set its stall up to defend, satisfied at the outset with a mere point, thus alleviatng all attacking pressure on their players. Bolasie and Puncheon literally took the piss at times because there was no real consequence for losing the ball. They didn't have 3 or 4 teammates ahead left stranded, they weren't accompanied by 40,000 nervously expectant souls waiting with baited breath every time they attacked - and accompanied by the usual ever-increasing volume of hopeless groans - weren't burdened with the weight of expectation not only in prizes on offer (safety might not be assured, but Pulis would have told them Goodison is a bonus, we have winnable games at home already on 37pts e.t.c) but also the performance required.

It was not just expected that we would attack, it was demanded. We were so costrained by this demand, the pressure of being the team needing to play good football, attack, score, take 4th place... could see in that first half they were all over the place and in desperate need of Martinez' guidance and direction, the kind of respite only HT could bring.

Everton have a specialist defensive coach, can't recall his name. Well, the guy needs sacking. The number of goals we've conceded direct from dead balls is beyond a joke. Thing is, we rarely get on the end of them at the other end. Lukaku's v the RS apart, have we scored direct from a dead ball cross this season?

lets hope the team get angry enough to beat utd and city.nothing is over till its over..reading some of these comments on here are a joke.. annoyingly pullis pulled this off.despite the timewasting they somehow scored 3 goals. lukaku and others were not quite up for this least not as much as the fans were. arsenal will drop points.everton need to make sure that they will be ready for it..

Lads - we are experiencing what my businesses have experienced over the years, dashed expectation in the short term when we lose, yet undeniable improvement in the long term against much stronger (financially) competition.

We're fighting against the odds, yet with belief, the quality of our management and our players we will get there - if we fail to get to the CL Bobby will use the failure as a reason for additional investment - then it is whether the Board can/or are willing to back him

[Poor language removed] me, isn't that enough???

The selection was an unnecessary risk. Why on earth introduce a totally different line up and formation at this stage of the season and with every point dropped now likely to be fatal? What got into his normally cool, calm and rational mind? Odd.

Because McCarthy wasn't fit. People are overlooking this.

Not really happy with Stones' positioning for the first goal. He's stood behind Howard on the line! If he was marking Jerome he could have easily blocked Puncheon's shot.

Roberto claims that John was blocked off from tracking Dann on the corner for the second goal. It looks like he's trying to mark him from behind though.

He slips for the third goal. That can't really be helped.

The radio commentators had him down as man of the match but maybe that little bit of inexperience defensively cost us tonight?

Hats off to Palace. Only two other teams have put 3 passed us this season Liverpool and City. Make no mistake, if the season was kicking off next week, Palace would be a top 10 side
