Exactly. The way we've conceded them as well, since the first game have me worried. They're so soft. School boy defending errors. Teams don't have to play well to score against us which is so unusual for an Everton side.

We are brilliant going forward, I genuinely think we are one of the best in the league but we've got two points on the board from 2 games we were winning and would have seen out last year. We've shipped 10 goals in the opening 3 and look like we've just forgotten how to defend.

I don't think we can keep faith with the CB unit tbh. It's not just this season, they looked rocky last season from set pieces, now they look rocky when anyone runs at them.

We have to buy a CB.

Can't see it happening. That back line is solid enough. It just needs a kicking.

Martinez takes the blame too.

Trying to play a daft high line against any of the top teams was suicidal last season, the same this season.

The way we conceded the 5th goal was disgraceful to get back in to the game at 4-3 and this give them a goal so easily shows there are serious problems. The problem seems that our players don't seem fit and we're completely unable to defend. I don't think it was a wise decision to spend 28 million on Lukaku, he simply isn't worth that amount.
Is this based on lukaku's 3 games this season (last 2 he has been carrying a toe injury) or his form last season. I don't think you will find many 21 year olds who have scored so many goals in the premier league. I think the time to judge him will be in about 2 years time, if he consistently scores between 15-20 league goals, I think he will have been worth it. Seriously though, if u didn't want lukaku, which other top striker would you liked to have come to the club?

I disagree with you there. We couldn't have gone into this season without strengthening up front and you look at other signings and 28mill for him seems the going rate now.

We also couldn't have known how bad our centre backs were going to be. They've been solid for the last 5 years, sure they'd had the off game here and there but nothing like this.

Roberto will be looking at strengthening our defence as a priority now. Thankfully there should be some decent players we can pick up cheap/on loan who can come in and challenge what we've got.

Aye, we're disappointed about today but being back in Europe is boss.
What're you studying mate ? Seems a bit weird for an English speaker to be at college in Germany.

Apologies if I seem a bit nosey like :)

Haha no problem friend :)

I'm studying medicine and your right, I wouldn't have done it here but my wife to be did not want to leave Germany and can not speak English so I will have to stay here with her.:whip:

I think we flatter those two. They haven't been convincing for a good while. Time moves on and players can't evolve. That fits the bill for these two.

Top 4 defences last season -

Chelsea - 18 clean sheets
Man City - 16 clean sheets
Everton - 15 clean sheets
Arsenal - 17 clean sheets

It just doesn't nose dive after a season.

Today was a complete collapse from the off against a powerhouse side. But I'll say it will just be a one off unless Martinez wishes for us to go kamikaze against Liverpool etc.

After a poor start to the game we kept going and showed great belief that we could get back into the game. However too many basic errors when we were defending. Jags and Distan will get shaper with their fitness.

Yes, but that record was built on the rock of Herculean performances from Barry and McCarthy. We can't be expecting that level from them all the time. They were incredible last season.

For me it's a CB partnership that can't be allowed to continue. The signs have been there for a while.

Had our defence not been so shambolic from the first whistle I reckon we would have done them today, 2 behind meant coleman and baines attacking more and Mccarthy getting a bit more forward trying to help keep the ball moving around their box. Sadly it knackered us out and played right into their hands

Blimey, you must have married young. Still, true love and all that
Good luck with the medicine degree, tough one that, hard work over five ( ? ) years. What uni are you at mate ? I bet you're out drinking in one of Germany's fine bars as I type !!

But its been steady for seasons previous to that.

And by saying Barry and McCarthy saved Jags and Distin last season, the same could be said for when Stone came in. So overall, you'd be wanting a completely new partnership.

One of them is still gonna be playing. It'll be Jags over Distin. And someone else if we were to change it.

I can't see him doing that.

He won't get a CB in either. Besic, Alcaraz, Stones he'd see as enough cover.

I think we're just gonna have to wait it out and hope it improves.
