I don't actually think Martinez is the one to blame for the shoddy defending. It's the players on the pitch stepping off. That's nothing to do with training, for some reason they just keep hesitating/making the wrong decision and it's costing us.

We need to get it sorted in the next 2 games after the break. Come back firing on all cylinders (which is always tough), and get 6 points on the board. I'd have imagined us to be on a lot more than 8 points by the derby like, but i'd snap your hand off for it now.

Mirallas,
Naismith,
McGeady (in flashes)
Eto'o

All fantastic today. Naisy has been top-draw the last few months and Kev really turned it on today. Lukaku is totally unfit and a martinez need sot have him withdrawn from the Belgian squad. Same with Jags and England.

Chelsea won't put 6 past many teams away from home either

I think they could do a fair few mate. They'd have put 12 past United's defence if they'd have played them today. I know, its kind of a moot point, but they're a fantastic team. With Costa leading the line and Remy as back-up - they're gonna rip plenty of teams to shreds. We could have had 5 ourselves today. The worry (and its a big one) is the defending. Jags decision to not track Costa and try to play offside for the first goal was just ridiculous.

If we're being brutally honest Jags, I love the guy and he's a very good defender but he's not world class. Distin is a very solid defender but he's not a very good defender and neither really suit Martinez's style of play. You can prob get away with one not both to REALLY push on!

We could do with bringing in a top class defender that suits RM style (easier said than done tho!) jags and Distin will always have the mindset of being inferior to the top teams, it's just the way it is.

There won't be many teams this season will put 3 goals past Chelsea and come away with nothing. Stop panicking boys.
We wouldnt have scored any had the officials not let us off with that Howard howler.

To think that they scored 6 against 11 sends shudders down my spine at what could of been a lot worse against 10. Stop panicking?? Ha ha

Ok lad. All pre season and now 3 competitive games in a row where we've looked an utter shambles at the back. But hey, lets stop panicking. Jarg-ielka has got this.

Mourinho’s version of events was quite different, alleging that Everton’s players had deliberately targeted Costa to provoke him into a row. “The only thing I didn’t like from this game, apart from our defending, was that some Everton players were trying to create problems for Diego,” the Chelsea manager said. “I don’t think this is English football. It’s also a contradiction for Everton because everything they normally do is good and positive. To be chasing yellow cards for a player of good behaviour, that is disappointing. “Diego is maybe the best player in the Premier League in the first three matches but he now has two yellow cards. One against Burnley when he didn’t simulate and it was a clear penalty, and today everybody was chasing cards to try to get him in trouble.”

Informed of those comments, Martínez said: “I’m disappointed if a manager has won a game away from home and complained about our attitude.”

The only positives to take from this was the response from the players when going 2 goals down ( numerous times) against the best team in the league.

..... and Kevin Mirallas.

Just back from a 21st birthday.
Appauled by the scoreline. We havn't won a game since Hull in May and look all over the place at times and most worryingly unfit.
Martinez got a lot right last year but the fears I had when he was appointed are bizarrely showing 12 months in.
I hope we turn this farce around pronto.

Interviewer : hard day at the office
Jagielka : yes, definitely
Interviewer: disappointing to leak so many goals
Jagielka : yes, definitely

Does Jagielka ever answer a question without beginning "yes, definitely". I do not want to bang on about this overlong, but he just is not captain material. He needs someone in his ear...he's a good follower

His next question was

Have you lost the plot phil?

Hi guys, I am a Tottenham fan from Germany. I think you guys should be proud of the effort put in by your team today, if this was my team last season we would have capitulated after such an early goal and Chelsea would have won about 8-0. Your team came back into it and pushed Chelsea pretty close. I agree that it is not ideal to concede 6 goals at home but I can't see the likes of that happening too much. I see many criticise the amount of over 30 players in your squad but Everton has so many exciting young players too! Lukaku, Barkley, Coleman, Stones, Mc Carthy, Besic (please do not judge on todays game) as well as one of the best young managers in the world! Tough game today but the future is still bright for Everton! My team will try our best to make your rivals Liverpool suffer tomorrow ;)
