The face of Dot was completely different just after Eto'os goal

Losing 6-3 is hard to take as but feel positive in a way. We conceded soft goals whilst at the other end our attack looked great...and I think the plus is that when we sort out our defensive errors things will be great. Good players don't turn bad overnight and think most of the blame should probably lie at our preseason imo. I am not really worried after this defeat...things like this sometimes happens but I will take that any day before a 2-0 defeat where the team struggled and played bad as whole. Imo the players are only now reaching the level we should have expected from them after pre-season.

The defense got punished badly for mistakes BUT that happens to some of the best sides when they have to chase a game being 2-0 down at times. I do think we will solve our defensive problems very soon. Had that goal gone in at 5-3 down to make it 5-4 it might even have ended differently...we will never know...but point is...when was the last time when we were 5-3 down and I still thought we have a chance to get back into the game...I can't remember...and that is why I am positive. A friend of mine phoned me when the score was 5-3...he is a ManU supporter and said its an unbelievable game and mentioned that he thinks Everton can be a real threat. I feel the same...why...because for the first time we literally can score against almost anyone imo...and fixing the defensive issues will happen.

Think about it for a second...this was a 6-3 defeat...it could have been a 5-5 game...a 6-6 game or even 6-4 whatever...NOT a 6-3 defeat where we could have lost 7-1 or worse and where we were lucky to score a goal. To me that's a great difference...and take away soft goals (which can be fixed) the result could have been totally different...once again we will never know BUT point is...we are a different team...and capable to go head to head with the best teams. That's the first sign to me of a team on the rise that will be capable to win trophies and compete with the best.

Yes the defense was terrible...but once again that's not the norm for Everton and rather the exception...and rest assured we will sort that. I for one are lookign forward to the season...only 3 games has been played...we are 1 point worse off than last season at this time...35 games to go...and we look a lot stronger overall in the attack already. We have an excellent defense that messed up badly the last few games BUT they will sort themselves out...and when that happens we will be one of the most dangerous teams in the league...once again feared by most...and that day s closer than most of us might think.

I see where you're coming from but we weren't better than them. It's their gameplan to let us have the ball when they went 2-0 up. Everytime we scored they went up another gear. Not many will beat that team this season.

Blame needs to be put on Distin and Jagielka but they weren't protected very well at all. If Roberto is choosing not to have wingers tracking back then he needs to play 3 in midfield to make up for that. We need to get a centre back in but we need to change our outlook on defending aswell. Doubt we'll get anyone decent in now mind. Down to you Roberto.

I understand the point you're making but we where also far better than them in the 2nd half up to the point they scored. They never went though any gears in that game. They just scored 6 due to clinical finishing and shambolic defending. As a team they where poor.

Good post.

Well thought out and you've cheered me up.

McCarthy was caught out by Hazard & Ramires for the third & fifth goals respectively. I do like the lad a lot, gets through a lot of work, but like with Arsenal's first goal last week he switches off and stops reading things at crucial times. He must improve on that.

Hahahahaha

They turned the screw at will and scored

It was like Wigan Vs Spurs when they were hammered 7-0

Total embarrassment tonight and there is nothing to suggest that Martinez can fix a defensive unit

No it wasn't - yes the final scoreline hurts, but not in context as we chasing after a poor start, kept going at them with full spirit and belief, back in it at 3-4, and suffered on another Chelsea-power break.

Even if some things need work and improvement at the back or defensively, we're going to totally overwhelm so many other sides from here on in.
