Well that was the most enjoyable Everton game I've watched since the Cyprus away game.
Portsmouth were clearly a couple of levels below us but the lads made that show on the pitch which doesn't always happen.
Feeney & Gibson were impressive at the back. As well as being good defenders you can tell they are both ballers.
Garbutt did well and would bring much needed balance to the first team pending Baines' return (assuming we don't buy somebody).
Hornby also looks the part. He stands out at U18 level due to his size, but he's shown there's a lot more to his game than that. Very composed in front of goal but we saw a different side to his game tonight as he turned provider. Lost count of how many chances he created.
Bene is steadily becoming my favourite Everton young player out of all of them. He just oozes class and ran the show tonight. I'd have him in the first team now. NEA.
Evans was star of the show tonight though. Two years ago, out of all our youngsters, I predicted that Evans and Baningime had the best chance to make it at Everton. At one stage I thought I got it wrong with Evans, and I heard he'd had a few growth issues. But he showed tonight he's back on line. Apart from his skill and ability with both feet, he's got this fantastic football brain. You could see it in the positions between the lines he was taking up in the second half especially. Has a goal in him too. It helps having somebody as good as Bene behind him who can pick him out. He's filled out a lot since I last saw him.
Special mention for Jags. I think we've found a new position for our captain. Behind the microphone.
