CRACKING NIGHT LADS.
David James said Everton would finish 16th this season. That's about as bad a prediction as Alan Sugar saying iPod's wouldn't take off!
It's not an agenda if it's utterly true - Bill hasn't got a pot to piss in, end of story. All dave is saying is that to challenge for a title we'd need a good manager and a good owner, willing to invest at least something into the club. We have a negative net spend over the last 10 years FFS!
You are right Tubey...it would be nice to have some money and, one way or another, BK is going to have to find the funds to make a serious offer for Lukaku and also pay Barry's wages at the end of the year when he signs for us. However, it was as much a negative attitude as a negative net spend that has been holding us back these last few years.
Moyes looked for 40 points a season....Martinez is already saying that he needs 71 for CL football. Different thought processes there.
Moyes would take us to Old Trafford and fight for a draw and then we could be plucky little Everton.....Martinez goes there and decides to stand eye to eye and go toe to toe with them.
We now have real spirit.
CRACKING NIGHT LADS.
A negative net spend doesn't indicate we're the best run - it just means we have zero investment. Although I agree the only thing Kenwright does offer Everton is stability (as he's pretty much a dictator at Everton) and consistency (as we're consistently skint.)
We could be ran equally as well and invest £3-5m a year into the playing squad. I don't think it's much to ask Everton to match Norwich on transfer outlay.
Not wanting to be on a negative tonight at all, but I'd love us to be title contenders as this thread is about - and I honestly believe we wouldn't need a sheik to give it a good go. All it would take is the invisible men at board level to pull their fingers out once or twice a decade. We've got a winner for a manager now, let's back him properly FFS
Wouldn't it be nice if the board identified how critical Lukaku would be for us and just got the funds to pull the deal together?
I don't want a sheik - agree with you, it'd be soulless. But I'd just like one or two million a season better than this:

Not much to ask like.
two massive dickheadsDavid James said Everton would finish 16th this season. That's about as bad a prediction as Alan Sugar saying iPod's wouldn't take off!
Both sides have said that they'd look at a deal for Lukaku if we achieved CL football. The prize money for qualifying would probably pay a large chunk of his fee, if not all of it. He has said that he needs to be playing in that competition so, if we don't make it, he probably won't come anyway.
Martinez has suggested that we could keep Deulofeu on loan for another season.
I'd be very surprised if Barry doesn't sign for us on a bosman in the summer. He might possible be joined by Lescott too if, as expected, Distin retires.
According to the manager there is no pressure to sell Barkley or Baines and there are funds available in January.
Next season we'll also be strengthened by the return of Alcaraz, Kone and Gibson as well as the hopeful emergence of Duffy, Stones and Lundstram.
We might decide to lose a few fringe players like Heitinga and Jelavic but it will probably be squad men that we will be replacing them with.
My point is that even if we had money to spend we're in a very healthy position and there aren't too many areas that we could improve. I still think Barkley is a bit raw and I'd like to see better quality competition for the playmaker role than Osman but, if we bought someone, would it be to the detriment of Ross' development? It would be great to have a goalscorer to throw on from the bench too but how often would they actually get to play?
We're maybe 90% of the way there at the moment and the changes that we need to make to reach our full potential, such as the ability to adapt to more sophisticated tactics, better ball control, a more positive outlook and better progression from the academy into the first team don't necessarily cost money.
Fuk it. Let's just win the whole damn thing.
