Everton: title contenders

We have £10-15m left over from the summer/last January to spend anyway - or should have; depends how "Other Operating Costs" are doing I guess.

I agree that "Other Operating Costs" looked really dodgy, but I remember it being broken down and eventually it made some kind of sense.

Bill should make a statement of intent before the window about our transfer kitty. If he says positive things, it might even put the willies up our rivals.

Everton are coming!

Beat Chelsea at home. Beat Manchester United at Old Trafford. Drawn against the RS when he battered them at home.

If we can begin to turn them tricky trips away to the lower teams who play for the 0-0s then there is no reason for us to not give it a bloody good go.

**** it, why be negative?

Why even be logical?

We're f**king Everton. Those days are over.

McCarthy goes in hard & early on that Bavarian Nemo-faced princess and he won't wanna know. Arsenal 0-3 Everton, Oviedo hattrick

Whoah!!!!!!

We need Martinez + a new owner for that.

A new owner full of cash?

It wouldn't have half the fun.

I thought that we could have been CL spot contenders if we had a decent striker, last season. I was affraid that the management change would disrupt the evolution process of the club. Not because of Martinez inability but mainly because change can bring some adaptability issues.

Fortunately, Martinez seems to have come good even though the old habit of dropping points against midtable opponents remains.

Title challengers? I'd say that it's a bold thing to say and I don't think we are title material, just yet. But if we keep Lukaku and Delofeu we could well be title contenders in a couple of seasons...without any sheik's money!

I don't want a sheik - agree with you, it'd be soulless. But I'd just like one or two million a season better than this:

Not much to ask like.

Yes mate!

Imagine if 3 of our draws were wins? That'd be 6 points extra. And the only draw I can think of that we might have lost was the 0-0 vs Spurs, so even balancing it out we would gain 5 points. That's just 2 points off Arsenal. Beat them, and we're top!

So exactly, if we can learn to kill of those draws we're fond of getting, the sky's the limit.

Nonsense. The difference between a title winning Man Utd side (aside from a bit part player in Paul Scholes) and now is:

* A Moyes signing.
* Moyes appointed backroom staff.
* Moyes.

That's it.

Martinez has brought in Lukaku, Barry, McCarthy and transformed the spine of our side and proven himself already to be tactically light years ahead of Moyes.

As I've said many, many times, Moyes is a phenomenal director of football, but an atrocious manager, and it's being played out right now.

I honestly believe it's less about who you bring in as it is about how you use what you've got. Had DM still been here, Barkley would probably be on loan to a championship club, Distin would be filling in at LB, and we'd still be pumping balls up to Fellaini.

We won't win the league but I'm happy to have sung Jingle Bells at Old Trafford.
Still buzzing. Probably won't sleep tonight.

So we are the best run club in the league and you don't like it? :D

A negative net spend doesn't indicate we're the best run - it just means we have zero investment. Although I agree the only thing Kenwright does offer Everton is stability (as he's pretty much a dictator at Everton) and consistency (as we're consistently skint.)

We could be ran equally as well and invest £3-5m a year into the playing squad. I don't think it's much to ask Everton to match Norwich on transfer outlay.

Not wanting to be on a negative tonight at all, but I'd love us to be title contenders as this thread is about - and I honestly believe we wouldn't need a sheik to give it a good go. All it would take is the invisible men at board level to pull their fingers out once or twice a decade. We've got a winner for a manager now, let's back him properly FFS

Wouldn't it be nice if the board identified how critical Lukaku would be for us and just got the funds to pull the deal together?

@Tubey

Having a load of money doesn't mean it will be spent wisely. But i follow you when you say we should be able to sign Lukaku. And Barry and Deulofeu, by the way.

We are Everton and we have been run in a very particular way in the last 10 or 12 years. I like this steadiness and the way we've progressed without selling our soul.

I'd say a bit of salt here and there and a touch of pepper would make us even more special. But hey, look at the bright side... we are getting closer and closer to the glory days.

I genuinely think we're top four contenders, and why not dream about the title, we've been outstanding at times this season.
