this is nonsense. You are saying that Benitez record must be expunged because he took the decision to manage a team in danger of relegation. It's nonsensical.

His record in the mid-00’s means absolutely nothing now. Not a thing. 61 year old Benitez who retired to China two years ago is not the same manager as 45 year old Benitez.

that's just unfair. His run in meant he was playing most of the top six sides, and even then, if you extrapolate the points he gained over that ten game period they would have finished ninth. But Sunderland went on a crazy run and pipped them to it.

They came as decent/good players but more importantly they all excelled under his coaching and guidance esp Alonso and Torres who turned out to be world class.

Torres was already world class! It would be like signing Haaland now and claiming it as some great eye for talent.
