Everton set out to get Luis Suarez

That's the thing though Dave. It wasn't controlled aggression, it was reckless. We got away with it, so I don't give a toss, but we/kev were fortunate.

I know it was reckless. But my point is that it's the sharp end of a different attitude we want to see from our players. Under Moyes they were bordering on the placid. When you have someone like Phil Neville touted as your "enforcer" you know how bad things were in that respect.

I have a feeling, for all his "niceness" Martinez is far more open to seeing his players impose themselves on the game physically and verbally. I dont remember any great concern he had with Callum McManaman, for instance, with his challenges. In fact, he defended him by saying he's not that type of player..."awkward forward's challenge" etc. I reckon this is the subtext to Martinez's comments about his players needing to believe in themselves (not to go out and do a McManaman, but to be more authoritative on the pitch).

If this is the new attitude being driven into the squad then it's not before time.

Pace and aggression. Hopefully the hallmarks of our team from now on.

So what if we did? He deserves it for being a complete and utter prick.

This all day.

If Kev had seen red for it I'd have applauded him off the pitch and only lamented that the horrors leg hadn't been snapped in half.

Well done Kevin Mirallas, you're a winner lad.

Seriously though, 1 goal, 2 assists, leg dropping Suarez and getting his studs into him. Mirallas is my hero.

I've never been so proud of Everton. If that makes me a bad person, then so be it.

I'd love it. I agree BTW. He knows for all the good football the games need winning too.

The amount of new things I'm seeing from us game on game is amazing.

we were very lucky, a temporarily injured suarez isnt worth losing the derby or kev for 3 games... says alot about how we let them (and the media ****e that comes with them) affect us if we do genuinely think that, pretty fookin sad if u ask me

I noticed the article was by someone from the anfield wrap, well their main fella from it was on city talk this morning. He actually tried to claim Saturdays match should be known in the history book as THE ‘Saurez’ derby.

Why? Because apparently, he loves to play football more than anyone on that pitch, he took a kick to the knee which left stood marks, didn’t moan about it and didn’t retaliate.

He was actually deadly serious as well.

He must be on drugs

It has taken 11 years for us to 1. Take a game to Liverpool and 2. Kick them back.

I get the impression Martinez is no push over behind is nice guy persona
