Everton must wise up to cynical opposition tactics, say Martinez

So I think we've dissected every second of the game last week and vented at everyone to blame.

Did it ever cross anyones mind that Baines had no-one to pass it too....you know because everyone had stopped...no. Oh well. Back to blaming Joel fisting.

The blame isn't solely Baines's to bare, we were angry that the whole team didn't carry on.

I've said for a while now i really do think football needs to come out and state:

"Play will stop for a head injury, any other type of injury, play will continue until the referee decides to stop the game"

This stops players hitting the deck and naive players kicking it out, it stops attacks from stopping, it stops the ridiculous drop ball with noone contesting it.

Imagine the likes of suarez hitting the deck, rolling round and play just continuing around him. Much better game than the now scenario of him hitting the deck, players stopping and booting it out, then he recovers instantly.

Yip.

You know, when I first started watching football and even as late as the early 80s, players would receive treatment on the pitch as play carried on around them (if they were injured in the midfield area or out on the wings).

This modern practice of booting the ball out of play is nowt more than a cheat's charter and should be dispensed with immediately.

I don't think the FA needs to clarify anything, they're the rules they've stated, the ref stops the game. The REF. Surely if Roberto gathered them all together and said if their player is being a t&'@, carry on, then our players should have the mindset to.. well carry on.

Harsh words that mate but agreed he should never have done what he done. As fans we know we are a soft touch for things like that and fair play so if we know it damn well the opposition knows it as well. Baines should have flew down that wing and banged in a 35 yard skip wiffle wallop bender blinder and be done with it. The thing that pissed me off most was Arteta banging in the pen minutes later.

I'm not just saying it for the sole reason of him putting the ball out. I'm also saying it because he simply isn't a leader on the pitch, you see people like Roy Keane, Viera and even that scumbag Gerrard and they are loud and fight for everything on the pitch. Baines comes across to me as quiet and a man who keeps to himself.

i think we should forget that and just score more goals than the opposition
we had chances against Chelsea and didn't take them so to suggest we need to do something else is a bit lame i would be more inclined to make the strikers practice more than learning the younger players how to con the ref

Didn't know we are teaching the players to con ?

Agree with that.

I think the problem for us is that we don't have a mouthy bugger to assume the role of skipper in the mould of a Keane/Viera/Hateful RS Bugger.

Even Jags is a relatively quiet lad from what I can see.

We just need to have more hunger and desire to win games. IIRC, we were in the final third of the pitch-real winners would have been so focused on trying to do some damage to the opposition, that they wouldn't have noticed someone being a drama queen in the middle of the pitch. I mean, if the worst referee in the world (as far as we are concerned anyway) didn't see anything wrong with playing on, then surely that's what we should have done!

We don't play on even when the ref tells us to.

That's what I'm saying...We don't need to be media darlings or the poster child for some FIFA fair play campaign. We don't have to be utter scum either, but surely there's a middle ground. IMO, we do come across as being too nice. We can save all the niceties for the post match interviews when RM can come across all suave and iron out all the differences. Meanwhile, on the pitch, let's go for it!

The two sporting teams that enjoy my greatest support are (in order), the All Blacks and then EFC. The first are great guys off the pitch but on it are ruthless and unforgiving...and often win trophies. The second appear great guys off the pitch , nice guys on it...and often don't win trophies.
Motto of the story?: when you step onto a playing field, be fair and clean, but be ruthless and unforgiving and if the opposition gives you an inch, you take a mile.
