This article gives a good overview of Brands for those unsure.

I find this the most exciting :

One of the key features from Brands time at both PSV and AZ is developing good young players and giving them a chance in the first team. Due to the Dutch league being way behind other top leagues in Europe, in terms of money, Dutch clubs put a premium on developing their youth players to both boost their first team squad and also potentially to sell on for profit which is the life blood of most clubs in Holland. As Technical Director Brands oversees the development and coaching at the club, this means he imprints how he wants players to be developed and in what style he wants them to get used to playing so they can transition seamlessly into the first team picture.

Not a big fan of 'domestic player bias', that's why we are lumbered with Keane and Bolasie.

Brands seems to prefer players who are between 18 years old and 25 years old who can go straight into the first team picture and develop to become better players.

Dont fear, Marcel has got you.

i'm very curious to see how we'll be spending on getting quality youth and developing them, then. should be exciting

I am hoping for a return to sell to buy fc, I cannot lie to you. I want players OUT before players IN.

I do think this is probably the end of the road for one W. Rooney.

Are there any names of note he has bought in.

Dries Mertens, Moussa Dembele, Giorginio Wijnaldum, Davy Propper, Luciano Narsingh, Erik Pieters, Kevin Strootman and Ragnar Klavan where all bought for moderate fees and in all cases developed into international players of some repute. Mertens, Dembele and Strootman have gone on to become some of Europe’s finest players and were spotted by Brands playing for lesser Dutch sides.

..i’m thinking this has been planned to a tee and Brands has had a communication route to the new manager for a while. The shopping list is ready, be very interesting who is targeted early.

Window opens tomorrow.
I get that feeling about this as well.

Today's announcement is just the "Official" appointment.

If not, then it would be a case of, "Here's your desk. You've got 48 hours to assess the squad and come up with a restructuring strategy for next season!"

It would make sense that he has been "working" for the club behind the scenes, as we have so little time to prepare for next season. (that is the hope).

Can you imagine poor Marcel reading the squad list on his first day.

We better hope he has a first floor office.

I just want him to come in, having watched us for 3-4 months, and go 'right Yannick, Dominic and Tom, none of you can pass the ball to a team-mate and are in fact complete tosh, sell sell sell sell'.

He will rid us of the likes of Ashley Williams and Funes Mori with almost grotesque indecency.

I would imagine he will have been scouting the midfielder at Boro and earmarking him for an important role within the squad frandel.
