Martinez: Oh Bollocks, Bill you tricked me! Now we have no money to buy players. Loans and Naismith it is.

People are incredibly impatient. Martinez has done more/given more of an indication that he's clearing the deadwood than Moyes ever did. Jelavic and Heitinga gone, he's building a SQUAD rather than just a first XI like Moyes did. He's picking up players whose contracts have expired/expiring, and he's using the loan market to flesh us out. If it weren't for bad luck with injuries we'd be sorted.

He's got money to spend and doesn't want to spend it all when the prices are inflated, I don't think that's difficult to grasp.

What signings would you of wanted last summer? I thought we were all happy until we had an injury crisis that not many other clubs would cope with.

Seems to me Martinez is summing up what we need and where and then he'll spend the money in the summer. Let's not forget he's only been in the job for months and inherited a decent squad so it's not beyond the realms he's waiting to see how the squad performs before spending much.

My problem is the sense of deja vu. Every January, we have the same old excuse of "we're waiting to the summer."

When Leroy Fer fell through, along with the phantom bid for Negredo, people said we'd look to bring in targets in the summer instead with a proper transfer budget.

What actually happened was that Martinez was given the Fer money, and then nothing else whatsoever.

Sure, we could have £20m to spend in the summer, but the problem is that we should have that and then some because of the TV money. But this finance always seems to disappear into thin air.

I have no doubt whatsoever we'll spend the Fellaini and Anichebe money in August, but it'll be spun as "backing the manager" when in reality it's just hitting the baseline of reinvesting what should automatically be available to spend. Meanwhile, our net spend levels continue to be below zero.

Seriously though, Bobby is boss, just got to have faith that he will get the money in the summer to get his targets

But, does he have the money to spend though??

We have strengthened mate, we got Traore in and then Lukaku goes and gets injured so wouldn't surprise me if he gets another one in tomorrow. How many have Tottenham or the ****e brought in? We're not going to be able to replace quality like Lukaku, Barkley and Delefluf in January.

We lost Gibson and Kone for the Season, then we sold Jelavic, we loaned an injured striker and bought a Winger, currently most of the squad is either injured or coming back from injury, I personally dont consider that being stronger.

spurs and the neighbours will both strengthen tomorrow, guaranteed

We need to add some more

Wrong use of words. I should of said 'added' to the squad rather than strengthened. When everyone's back we're going to have one hell of a squad. Take the quality and the same amount of players we've had out out of the red sh*te and let's see if they'd still be knocking around 4th.

The January price inflation myth is exactly that, a myth. There are players available now who would improve us and add depth - McGeady actually proves as much. Defour is out of favour, if Martinez believes he could improve us, then the price is right and we have the money. All that changes between now and the summer is that the player becomes unavailable.

The only way I can justify the board not backing Martinez this month is if the manager has absolute confidence that a true marque target is ours in the summer for £20m or so, and we can't afford to deplete the budget until then.

But to gamble away a chance at 4th on an off-chance of signing a player in the summer is absolute mad.
