I think there's gonna be a heavyweight bout on here next summer, you versus Davek, with Nik coming in late with the fold up chair from behind, scenes!

We'll see. Past experience of England managers in tournaments doesn't bode well. Remember Mexico when Robson only played our lot after the Cockney divvies fell on their arses?
Can I ask why my English mates seem to have such a tepid relationship with their national team? I know they haven't really risen to meet expectations in recent history. Anything else?
I'd put US Soccer above Everton any day of the week (bring on the neg reps!). And we've never won anything of value. Ever.
I've always viewed it as playing for your club is how you get paid, and playing for your country is an honor. One everybody does, the other is what the extraordinary do.
Its different with yanks though, all you lot are mad patriotic just the way use are raised.
Whereas i personally class myself as scouse not english, cant stand this country
Baines won't be an Everton player come the World Cup is my gut feeling.
And Davek. Some people like England.
(Always Everton over England though)
It's a good thing whether we're in the CL or not to be honest.Should we ever qualify for the Champions League again, you'd imagine having players regularly exposed to international competition can only be a good thing.
Whilst there is the element that playing for England puts our players in the shop window, I'd prefer to think that them doing so puts us in the shop window for other players looking for a club whose players play at the highest level.

While many fans these days don't seem to value the national side, a lot of players (not all, but a lot) do value it. If it was perceived that it was impossible to get an England (or other national side, I suppose) call-up while playing for Everton, it'd be a fair bit harder to convince some players to come here, or for some of our own to stay.

I'm an American that would far prefer to see Everton lift a trophy than the US win anything. I mean sure, beating Mexico is fine and all, and if it's the only football on, I'll watch, but generally I'm Evertonian first, American second.
Part of this is because of the relatively small number of people that care about US men's soccer. I want the US to do well, but if they lose, I really don't care. As long as no Everton players get hurt, internationals are just an annoying break in the season and a nice diversion in the offseason.
