If Donovan plays as an orthodox right winger, as he did in the Chelsea match, we've got a good chance of getting something from the game. If he wanders off, as he normally does, we'll have very little width and it will be another game of precious few chances.

So your saying if Donovan plays well, we win?

What a strange comment.

I dont think he "wanders off", most of our attacks go down the left flank. So maybe you dont notice him as much.

Against United Baines is likely to be cautious of bombing on. Pienaar prefers to come inside. If Donovan tries to support Saha, as he did against Birmingham and Liverpool, then we'll resort to long diagonal balls forward from the back.

If Donovan stays out wide, as he was instructed to do against Chelsea to occupy Ashley Cole, then he gives us an option for getting round the back of United. Not such a strange comment afterall.

Cahill deffo out

Cahill Misses United – News Archive – News – evertonfc.com – The Official Website of Everton Football Club

Tim Cahill will miss the Premier League clash with Manchester United due to a calf strain.
The Australian limped off the field in the 2-1 win over Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday and David Moyes says he will be sidelined for a fortnight.
"Tim will be out for two to three weeks because he has got a calf strain," Moyes said in his pre-match press briefing.
"It is a grade one, it is not serious but I would be very surprised if he could make any of the games in this coming week."

This would be our ideal line-up for tomorrow:-

-------------------------- Howard -------------------------
-------- Coleman --- Yobo --- Heitinga --- Baines ----
------- Donovan --- Osman --- Arteta --- Pienaar ---
----------------------- Bilyaletdinov -----------------
--------------------------- Saha ---------------------

But of course it is going to be Neville at RB, but if possible I did like the line-up from above!

Howard
Hibbert Heitinga Distin Baines
Donovan Neville Arteta Pienaar
Anichebe Saha

Donovan to pin Evra back, Baines to stop Nani/Valencia, just cut the service off and make them try to play through the middle forcing Rooney deep. Anichebe to start just to be a nuisance and to be replaced either at HT or after his yellow card. Options aplenty on the bench with Bily, Osman and Rodders to get a run second half. Maybe Vaughan might get a run out if one of the other three don't.

Fresh from the "we won but it felt like a loss" game against Sporting, an in-form United come to try and gloom the mood a bit.

Taking on the champions is never an easy task but once we wipe that last gasp mishap, and by that I mean Distin you utter tit, out of mind we may remember taking the game to Chelsea and getting a result not so long back. We're half way through the month now and it's not been so bad so you would assume confidence remains a tad high.

Thanks to modern media you know near enough everything about United, their players and their likely line up and that's a convenient cop out from me having to discuss tactics. Rooney no doubt will start and although it pains to say it, he is turning into the player we sort of knew he would; we'll have to be alert to him all game. You can see why Moyes would have been a fan of Fletcher, he's everywhere in the midfield but throughout the team they possess quality that ultimately wins you titles. Nani's [Poor language removed] two footed tackle against Villa means he misses out.
England's new captain will hope to have a better game than England's ex captain did against Saha who if we hope to gain anything out of this game needs to have one of his better days.

When the dust has settled from the midweek game, I'm sure it was the controlled tempo that Moyes preached in Eurosoccer but it shouldn't mask the fact that we were a bit [Poor language removed], Sporting were there for the taking and we had some good fortune prior to their goal. Distin you utter tit. Heitinga will return but other than that it's safe to say it will be pretty much the same team, complete with Arteta and the all new nasty Osman in the middle. It goes without saying that we'll need to compete from the very first whistle and hope that lunch time Goodison is snarling a bit - not easy when you're like to still be a little raw from Friday night quaffing of assorted beers.

So, it's job half done for February - lets roll over and take a good thrashing in our mutual quest for number 19.*

*For the purpose of any loveable reds lurking around these parts.

Isn't Ferdinand out for his 4th game after his extension following the failed appeal?

BBC Sport: EVERTON v Manchester United

Manchester United will be without suspended duo Rio Ferdinand and Nani.

Nemanja Vidic is back in the squad and could play for the first time in 2010 following a nerve problem in his leg.

With Cahill out i would go for:

Howard
Coleman Heitinga Distin Baines
Donovan Osman Arteta Pienaar
Bilyaletdinov
Saha

But it will more likely include Neville rather that Coleman, and Pienaar and Bilyaletdinov switched.

I would not be surprised to see Donovan run behind Saha in this game. We'll see if Moyes has pegged LD for the wide role and will confine him to that, or if he will use him in a place where he can really stretch the defense and express his best qualities. I expect that will depend upon what Moyes has seen in training, how well LD works with Saha.

If they work well together, Man U won't know what hit them. Brazil and Spain were stunned by it as many International opponents have been. I don't think anybody in the world counter-attacks or runs from deep positions out of the center better than LD.

There are a lot of ways to line up that would create this situation, but I don't know Everton well enough to know how they would set it up. Perhaps:
-------------------------- Howard -----------------------
---------------------- Yobo --- Heitinga ----------------
---------Nevillle-----------------------------Baines-----
--------------------- Osman --- Arteta -----------------
--------Pienaar---------------------------Bilyaletdinov-
--------------------------Donovan-----------------------
--------------------------- Saha ------------------------

Thats how I´d go Cata!
------------------------- Howard -----------------------
---------------------- Yobo --- Heitinga ----------------
---------Nevillle-----------------------------Baines-----
--------------------- Osman --- Arteta -----------------
--------Pienaar---------------------------Bilyaletdinov-

--------------------------- Saha ------------------------
