Well in fairness, talent makes a big difference. Kompany took Burnley up and then right back down too and he could easily have Bayern winning multiple trophies this year.
I'm betting he'll be found out in Europe.

Here in Germany, he has little to no competition. I think he's painting a false picture right now. The Champions League will tell a tale.

Parker is just another ex player who can't manage for me, just shows being a decent player doesn't always transfer over.
There's levels, for sure. I can sort of understand the rush and genuine self belief of higher profile players to jump into the prem. But I'm general I think they need more experience lower down.

Of any I admire Lamps probably the most as he came close with Derby, helped us for a season and may well get Coventry over the line, too.

Parkers obvs done that already himself. I just don't see the quality in burnley this time, in terms of pace or quality. Seem to be financially ok, just not easy to compete at their scale.

In general all managers for me need longer at lower levels. The interesting exception to the rule seems to be Tony Bloom who's moneyball software seems to build very decent squads ( his Hearts team about to win there... which could signal years of CL qualification given the state of Rangers and Celtic), and this ability to build sound squads alters the managerial role... to the point of being younger than some of the players.

Clever.

It’s a shame cos they were breaking records in the championship for their defensive record so I thought they may end up being tough to beat but they’ve been poor
They let their midfield marathon runner go, Brownhill was players player of the year. They were very effective defensively in the championship. PL is a big step up and they started with a backward step. Silly on their behalf.

Atalanta certainly told no tales tonight
Italian football is in the gutter. That they are the last of the Italian sides says it all. Bayern will be gone in the last eight in all likelihood - though they are without doubt the least offensive of the mega clubs. I'd like them to win it. But a fair fight for Bayern only happens in the last eight: City or Madrid. Win that and I will be impressed.
