Italian football is in the gutter. That they are the last of the Italian sides says it all. Bayern will be gone in the last eight in all likelihood - though they are without doubt the least offensive of the mega clubs. I'd like them to win it. But a fair fight for Bayern only happens in the last eight: City or Madrid. Win that and I will be impressed.
You say that now but something tells me they might meat and beat Real and the excuse will be that they're in turmoil cuz of the manager changes and all that. Regardless, I agree that Italian football is in the gutter and has been for a decade or so at the very least.

They used to have a great record against Real. That flipped fairly recently. I think City will beat Real. Bayern could beat either of them - I just don't rate Kompany. Living here in Berlin, I see a lot of German football and Bayern have, through no fault of their own, basically rigged the league in their favour. They have been tremendously well run since the day Uli Hoeneß cleared all of their debts in 1984 by selling Karl-Heinz Rummenigge to Inter for more than the 4 million GBP that was officially announced... He then bought Lothar Matthäus and Bayern have been in clover since.

But they get no test in the otherwise superb Bundesliga. That comes in Europe. To be fair, Bayern tend to recognise this themselves. Felix Magath won two doubles in a row in the late noughties and was still sacked for failing in Europe. The season starts next round for Bayern...

Yeah, I know, I follow the BuLi, but still feels like whatever Kompany/Bayern do here it'll be someone else's fault, not their doing, really.

City and Real are both not in great form and will be there for the taking, whichever one it comes to be.
