European Super League

Why are people always fearful of this? It would be absolutely amazing for a club like us. Get rid of the financially doped clubs and clubs like us, Spurs, etc. Would dominate and actually win stuff.

Would never happen sadly as this is what the CL effectively is these days.
It would effectively mean (if we win what's rest of the league) that we'd win what is in effect, the 2nd division.

There'd be no promotion, of course, because that would mean one of the very marketable brands being relegated. It's a business now, not a sport.

I've pretty much lost interest in sport - from being an avid follower of boxing, cricket, football, even rugby - one by one I've lost interest in each game as sky has robbed us of them from 'everyman tv. I look up everton's result each Saturday, and much of the time see they've not even played ffs. I pay skant interest in the other fixtures and results and have given up on motd and their outrageous agendas, biases and favourites (pretty much the bbc's new motto isn't it?)

It's too expensive and too much effort to keep up with the constant changes. I couldn't name a modern boxer, I wouldn't know two of englands greatest ever cricketers (Anderson and Cook) if I passed them in the street (entire careers on sky), I lost interest in rugby when they meddled with the rules and became professional. Football has just become a parade of chequebooks - very predictable - and I can't see this proposed change going anything but make it worse.

Sport - which was once an obsession, is pretty much dead to me because it's all become glitz and money and brought about corruption, greed and cheating superstars. My interest now is in machines and history. I hang on to my interest in Everton just out of tradition.

Let them have it, whilst they are at it I hope Liverpool and man u relocate to dubai.
For those unfamiliar with the US way of 'doing sport' the next step would be to institute a draft system:
a) so that player costs are cut and
b) so that there is a degree of hope for the permanent teams who are currently not doing so well

and then you threaten to move your team from Liverpool or Manchester to somewhere else in the world unless you get a new stadium built for you and massive local and national government handouts. And then you move it anyway if someone comes along with a better offer...

All those wishing it happens should really take a breath and think about this, the Premier league won't get the funding or TV time it has now, think how sky do the Championship, that's what we would probably have, but it's exclusive to Channel 5 or something.
Every player who gets MOTM says in his interview "it's my dream to play in the Super League".
All those old enough to remember the Premier league starting thought exactly what's been commented here......it will never last, we will be back to normal in 2 years.
If it comes about, the next stage will be a world super league with big sides from the Americas invited, at that stage the league that we play in will be like the conference.
We will be at the forefront of the teams pushing for Super league 2.
It's all about the money money....

If they did make a superleague it would kill football overnight.

Any player would want to play there and winning your respective league would be meaningless , especially if your countries quota of English club's are found in the champions League via the super League.

These clubs would stockpile the best players even more than now which would be a draw for young players wanting to be at the best.

Money would drop significantly for the actual leagues in the countries as the money for rights would divert to the super League making competing and potentially joining the super League almost impossible in the same way it's impossible almost to match them now.

The league would represent money and the rich owners playground which sadly if that is the end result of football then the game will die over time. Imagine starting every season knowing no matter how well you do it isn't considered elite , and your best players will be governed by that league whenever they want them. Loyalty will be non existent

Everyone fretting clearly forgets football before 1992.

Let then F off, you think clubs like Everton, Spurs, Newcastle, West Ham, Leicester etc would just become pub sides? There will always be interest and that europe super league would become boring real quick when Barcelona, Real, City and Bayern are dominating it every year and all the Utd, Kopite etc. Glory hunting fans around the globe cancel their subscriptions as they see their sides bottom of the league year after year.

Pretty much the way I see it going

Nailed it.

God I hope this happens. I think it would bring some identity back to English football. Less money but more passion possibly. I seriously don't understand these teams motives though. With the exception of the English teams all of the others have a walk in the park in their own league And can focus on the CL. I don't understand why it has to be one or the other for them. Do they just hate the embarrassment of losing to cska moscow's?

The RS can't win their own league so want to go away and play something they'll never ever win.

Liverpool look so out of place in that list, all those other sides im sure regularly win the title and cups as well, funny thing is they camt compete with City now, go into that and they will have even less of a chance.

Arsenal haven't for a while too and ac Milan have been crud for a while. Weird is them, but no inter. Imagine if they nailed down rules where players could only be bought from teams within thst league.

In my opinion, i can only see this going one of two ways.

This could save football if Fifa and Uefa hold firm, expel the clubs, players, agents, managers, staff ect. Ban them all from playing in there competions. Let these club go and have their exhibition league, while the rest of us get on with things.

Or they pander to them and their money, and football finally dies that death it's been threatening for a while now.

Personally, I see the latter as more likely, but I'm hoping for the former.
