European Super League

Seems there are lot of this stuff coming in next few days, apparently evidence about recent multiple Champions League winner doped,PSG and City with help of former French president Sarkozy bribing Uefa and God knows what more.To think City fans booing Uefa and all this time it was corrupt Uefa that was secretly helping them and doing cover up for them and Psg,oh the irony

So this would mean the English teams on that list would no longer play in the premier league? Wonder what would happen to the champion s league if that was the case.

Assuming the CL would stay and be contested by everyone else.

There's would literally be a breakaway league. They will probably make 2 cups as well, all made up of the same teams - sounds completely boring

They want to follow American model,Nba,Nfl, etc..Probably gonna throw bunch of commercials and other stuff for even more money,TV rights and all that stuff and they dont want to share that money with Southamptons,Sampdorias,Eintrachts,Sevillas of this world

The bizarre thing is the split between founder members and "guest" clubs. Where would - for example - Marseille end up if they got kicked out of the money league?

Sounds like Bayern would like to stop their players from playing for their national teams too. What if the players want to play?

This is the crux, the same teams playing each other year in, year out becomes routine.

Champs League has already led to this, hence the need to dream up something new to rebuild artificial excitement. Back in the European Cup days you got a fixture like Arsenal v Barca once a decade maybe so it was genuinely different and exciting even for neutrals. Now it feels routine and the glamour of a european fixture is completely gone.

In terms of euro league I say let them go and good riddance. Problem will be the bankruptcy of 50% of the premier league and championship clubs as the tv money disappears overnight.

Would lead to the top leagues being a lot more competitive though so I cant imagine all the interest would go. Would be amazing to see it happen and then completely fold.

I for one can't wait for the "super league" to happen. I just hope Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal join it too. Sure it'll be epic for them at first. Why wouldn't the idea of playing Real Madrid, Barca or Juventus on a Sat and regular games against other top European sides sound very attractive? I can just imagine the unbearable smugness of RS fans when they have a particularly good game coming up and we're away at say Aston Villa. What to know when the appeal will fade? When they start getting hammered every week and finish bottom constantly, along with the mind blowing cost. The big match feel will quickly evaporate leaving them as an also-ran cash cow. That's were interest will fade. You see, the glory hunters who support these sides will lose interest once they realise that there's hardly any real rivalries other then manufactured ones that'll fall flat very quickly. It'll hit them that the only reason they pretend to support "big clubs" is so they can crow over their friends who support other "lesser" sides, but if they're not competing in the same league, what the point? They can't even get relegated so there's absolutely no consequences either. It's just an endless existence of nothing significant ever happening other then making money.

Meanwhile after the bottom falls out of the domestic game initially things will get better real fast for those of us deemed unworthy of the "super league". Ticket prices will go down, we'll see more local lads get games regularly and the game will have to be far more fan friendly. Teams will actually have a chance to win trophies and not be stuck in the endless monopoly we currently have. That Everton Vs Aston Villa game that sounded insignificant before? What about when we're both competing for the "first division" (or whatever they call the new league) along with three or four other sides also in the mix?

Within ten years of this European/world "Super League" most sides will be begging to be let back into their own domestic leagues and be in genuine fear of collapse.

Absolutely 100% all for this. Couldn’t be more for it.

Anyone saying they would miss the derby is tripping. I want that club abolished and this is the first step.

Will not be missed , any of them. Bye

Imo. Will be 16 teams. 4 groups, group winners into semi and final. Sky and other broadcasters wil lap it up. There will be 3/4 teams demoted/premoted, each year, just to “mix it up” but for the majority it wil be for the “chosen” the hallowed turf, the rest of us will be left to battle for year after year, for mere league throphies, fwiw. Any further league titles will be won but with an * to denote “PSL” (post super league) not (peeing self laughing) as the whole sport disappears up its own ar se. Viva la revalcion.

Do you really think local Utd, Liverpool and City fans would go for this? Especially City, considering they're already not that sold on Champions League. I very much doubt they'd want this to happen

The Premier League would lose all its funding, interest, viewing figures and sponsors.

Where would that really leave us? Facing bankruptcy?

Do you think Chelsea and Liverpool fans would enjoy being the whipping boys of the league?
