European Super League

And what happened in the year or two before each of those changes were made? Oh, that’s right. A group of Europes clubs threatening to form a breakaway league

Very true, numerous examples of this kind of thing going back to the 80s when corporate greed started to take over the sport.

Nearly 15 million fans went to Premiership matches last season. They didn't all go because the top 5 were playing, they went because 'their team' was playing. This won't change if clubs leave. Everton will still fill Goodison if we're playing well against any team...same goes for the rest of the clubs fans.
If the TV money goes then teams remaining will still be on the same level and games will be just as competitive as they are now. It'll take some time to adjust but football trends have been happening since the league was formed.
We'd survive, our leagues would survive....the same can't be said for any Super League once the initial interest cools. Fans of these clubs may become a little reluctant to spend a fortune to travel huge distances to watch the same games every season...no local derbies, no trips to Wembley etc.....careful what you wish for

I hope if there were to be a Super League that THFC are no part of it (which I doubt we would be).

It amuses me how Chelsea and Man City are considered 'elite' teams these days when us older lot know that for what they really are, small clubs that won the lottery.

If THFC were, by a quirk of fate, part of it I would Jack in my season ticket.

European cup football would basically become an internet sport played at stupid times for overseas subscribers.

No thanks.

"Small clubs that won the lottery" ....and the last time you lot won the league was???? You need a lottery win methinks

If a super league is created, then what will be the consequences for the teams that go? Banned from European and/ or domestic competitions? Players sanctioned against returning to the existing footballing structure? Striking off all their domestic and European honours from the record books?

Or absolutely nothing?

The only way I can see it working is instead of the Champions League, so these 16 teams form a break away cup competition, play in groups first off, them a knock out competion. That would probably work, because you maintain the familiar format of the champions league, keep the domestic football and the money of the new champions league is only split between these 16 teams, giving them more money.

What will probably happen is the Uefa will come to some agreement that the top leagues will get more of the prize money, to keep this from happening

I'm older and I know City have always been on a par if not bigger than Spurs. City still hold the record for the biggest ever home crowd outside Wembley. I'm 52, and pre premier league I was alive the last time City won the league. Can't say the same for Spurs. Not exactly sure why you're considered a big team. If it's history then Everton are far bigger, If it's the last 20 years then [Poor language removed] knows. You are, or at least were a good cup team. That's it, nothing more. For some reason the media love you, no one else does. On the bright side you have the biggest club shop in the world and in the near future a cheese shop. I genuinely hope that makes you happy, Cheese and a big shop to buy a new shirt. #spursy

You're not wrong. Someone ought to throw in a second ball for Fulham to play with.

Ha ha.

Did that make you feel better?

Go and have a lie down.

I can't image fans like the RS who for months will feel that they are in with a shout for the EPL title would put up with being also-rans after six or eight matches. Who wants to see their side clobbered regularly? This way they're a big fish, in this Super League they'll be cannon fodder.

After a few seasons will any real fan actually watch it? It will just be a competition for day trippers and Barcelona “fans” who live in places like the US and Japan and think that they play in the Prem. As soon as people get bored of the moron aquariums they put in the tunnels of clubs like Man City and Facebook stop making huge amounts of money from streaming it they’ll realise it was a stupid idea.

I hope they do create a super league, and the 11 teams mentioned do one out their respective leagues, then when the bubble bursts or the appetite just isn't there, they find themselves without a league to play in and have to come crawling back, would the FA have the balls to make them start from the bottom leagues though, doubt it
