Europe Thread 25/26

Obvious, but a must win for us this weekend for any hopes of European football coming back to Everton.

I am going to remain as optimistic as possible for now....

Wham - 3pts
City - 0
Palace - 1pt
Sunderland - 3pts
Spurs - 3pts (Spurs already relegated at this point)

Total of 10 points / 57 points overall!

Also to add - predictions are:

Brighton - 5pts from last 4 games
Bournemouth - 4pts from last 4 games
Chelski - 5ts from last 4 games (being generous now Rosenior has gone)
Brentford - 4pts from last 5 games

Leaving the table as:

6th Everton - 57pts
7th Brighton - 55pts
8th Chelski - 53pts
9th Brentford - 53pts

They are some low points totals for teams who are currently in some excellent form (Brighton & Bournemouth)

Remember when the Moyesiah took us to fourth place and we beat Liverpool in the race for that CL spot? That felt like serious overachievement - and it was. That Liverpool side won the Champions League, somehow, that season. That felt like an odds-against success.

Now, consider the current CL race with a collapsing Chelsea, Brentford, Brighton, and Bournemouth. Does finishing above them feel in any way comparable to finishing anove Benitez's mob? Nope. It feels eminently achievable.

This is a huge opportunity. We need to grasp it because we may not get a better chance in the coming seasons.

Quite agree, but looking at the remaining fixtures:
Brighton

Newcastle (a)
Wolves (h)
Leeds (a)
United (h)

I think they will beat Wolves at home, but 2 'challenging' away games and then United at home last day could be anyones. Hoping there good run won't continue all the way for remainder of the season. This is biggest challenge but even then, if they pick up more points then drops us into 7th which good for conference league hopefully.

Bournemouth:

Palace (h)
Fulham (a)
City (h)
Forest (a)

Again, these are draw merchants.... can see them getting beat by City, but then expect then to win 1 and draw 1 of the next 2 games...... and with nothing to play for last day of the season probably on the beach and get beat!

I remain optimistic....

Brighton are winning at least one of those 2 away games

Possibly..... although I think Newcastle may turn it around a little now with Bruno the 2nd rat now back and Joelinton the yard dog will be again available for that game!

Leeds away is always a tough game.
