Europe Thread 25/26

about £10million
Like I said I rarely get excited about spreadsheets but that Money is what about 9 months of grealish wages .

I want us to be financially well run but that prize money would I assume be useful in allowing the club to build and perhaps going up a couple of places and competing in Europe , which is were this conversation began.

I want Everton to win something and Europe presents that opportunity, not to mention Europe is just about enjoying yourself as a fan.

Like I said successful financial dealings are great but I want to see success and glory .

Get into Europe - Attract better players - play on bigger stages - compete in good competitions - become a better squad - get better sponsorship deals - become a regular European name - build our reputation - make Everton great again

We can't look at it pessimistically, it CAN work out for us. First we have to get there. If it ends up like 2017 again, so be it. We have to try again and again. Playing twice a week has to become the norm.

Forest have been in a relegation scrap all season with 4 managers including Sean Dyche and Ange Postecoglou... and are probably going to be in a Europa League SF against Villa. People massively overrate the quality of these competitions.
Spurs weren't pulling up trees last year and they won it. And if it wasn't them it would have been an awful United team. Inequality between the top leagues seems greater than ever.

The worry I have is the inevitable disruption to our league season. Unless you have the funds to essentially build two first teams it'll be difficult. We're 2/3 players short anywya never mind having strength and depth in most positions.

That said I still want us to give it a go.

I think people are still thinking about the Europa in the same way as when the Champ's League teams used to drop into it. Now they've got the league format for the Champions League, the Europa should be well winnable for a Premier League team.

Europe wasn’t the reason for our failings in 2017

It was that we bought bad players and had a manager that didn’t care

There was an article a month-ish ago that said the top amounts of prize money for Conference (£15mil) and Europa (£25mil) were dwarved by the Champions League.

The interesting thing is that we could take the next step into either of those and be among the favourites to win.

The key difference is that winning Conference gets you a Europa League place but Europa gets you Champions League.

To compete at the top we need the revenue streams that come with prize money and comnercial partners who want European exposure.

Clearly we need to be in the Champions League, Europa or Conference in that order.

Then we have the revenue to bring in the next level or two of players.
