Europe Thread 25/26

There was an article a month-ish ago that said the top amounts of prize money for Conference (£15mil) and Europa (£25mil) were dwarved by the Champions League.

The interesting thing is that we could take the next step into either of those and be among the favourites to win.

The key difference is that winning Conference gets you a Europa League place but Europa gets you Champions League.

To compete at the top we need the revenue streams that come with prize money and comnercial partners who want European exposure.

Clearly we need to be in the Champions League, Europa or Conference in that order.

Then we have the revenue to bring in the next level or two of players.
We should be aiming for the CL this season, the league is dogshiz.

Uniteds new manager bounce is over, the rs are turd, Chelski are terrible, Villa a bit patchy. Only the arse and shitteh we realistically won’t get close to, the rest are fair gam.

I’d Take the others euro comps of course, but why not go for it - might not get as good a chance of CL again, especially as the pl will allow the scabs to continue to spend and flout any ffp regulations without censure.

No matter what any other results are in the next round of matches, beat the RS and were 2pts off 5th.

The momentum and confidence would be with us and then its a straight shoot out for 5 games.

I would happily take any europe right now. There are 6 teams within 3 points of us, and a few bounces one way or another can decide a lot right now. After where we have been the last few seasons, anything would be a big boost.

Oh, I’m not arguing with you mate, any euro comp is a massive bonus and huge success from where we’ve been, and it’s a credit to the manager and players for getting us in the euro conversation.

I just think we might not get as good a go at getting a CL place as we will this season, so we should be aiming as high as possible and fearing no one, above or below us.

I think we're aiming to win every match, I don't think Moyes is telling them "don't think of the CL just get us into the Conference league and then start planning your holidays."

Unfortunately I think we've run out of games left to catch them even on a bad run, 6 games left with an 8 point gap, we'd have to win every game left. 5th is our only realistic chance of Champions League which makes Sunday massive.

Yep. Even with a win I think 5th is a tall order. There's a lot of competition and we're starting slightly behind our other rivals for that spot. I think we will need to win a bare minimum of 4 (including Sunday) out of the remaining 6 to get 5th.

Forest have been in a relegation scrap all season with 4 managers including Sean Dyche and Ange Postecoglou... and are probably going to be in a Europa League SF against Villa. People massively overrate the quality of these competitions.

Shamrock Rovers were penalties away from reaching the quarter final last season!

Agree with the other posters on how good the trips are. I try to get to two a yr but some lads (no kids etc) plan their whole July - sept around it (on account of Rovers entering CL qualifiers early.

I dont want to sound overly pesimistic here but it is easily feesible we lose to both the RS & City in the next 6 games.
West Ham, Palace & Sunderland are no mugs and are both in and around mid table for form since the new year, so again could easily not get maximum points in those ones

Teams around us wont get maximum points either, but all it takes is a 1 or 2 point swing against our favor and we are sat in 10th/11th.

Whether we get Europe or not, i wont be over reactional and see it as a good season were we made obvious progress .

I'm think 9 points will probably do it, but 9 points is going to be an extremely tough ask

I know everyone wants the UCL or worst case scenario, UEL, but tbh the the direction this club has taken the past few seasons, I think any European competition would and should be seen as a thing to get excited about. And let's be totally honest and blunt here: UCL would be cool and all, but no way in hell we would have a chance to win it anyway. Though yes I understand the prestige/financial aspects of it.

May be in the minority with that thinking mind haha.

Regardless, let's see how the rest of this season goes!
