Europe Thread 25/26

If we dont get into Europe it wont be because Liverpool lost to brentford on the last day, it will be because of our mostly horriffic home form.

8th now and it's in our own hands.

We should really be just focussing on 5th and getting there instead of looking over our shoulder.

This league is terrible. Utterly terrible. Zero quality beyond the top two of Arsenal and City.

Whilst it's a pretty open secret I'm not a big fan of Moyes as a person (I think he's a decent football manager but nothing amazing) it would be a great achievement to get this Everton squad into Europe. We are behind Arsenal, Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Fulham, the rs, Man City, Man United, Newcastle and Tottenham in terms of our "journey" as a club, with all of our recent difficulties, so to finish above 5 of those clubs would be impressive in my opinion.

I get what you're saying - and progress has been made (up to this point, at least) - but a club like Forest was nearly relegated one season and then the next blasted through to almost grab a CL spot.

There's a serious danger of overestimating what it takes to get right up there and to threaten those CL spots - never mind securing a EL or EC spot.

This league is appalling. It's now widely accepted in the game that this is the case.

I mean Forest spent £300 million which helped accelerate their progress and that appears to have only been a short term fix, I wouldn't be following their example. I'm not sure the league is appalling, it's just quite equal and the top teams aren't head and shoulders above the rest, as evidenced by the European results.

Relatively speaking the league isn't appalling. If the prem is awful then pretty much every other league is too.

All the English teams got to the knock outs of the CL. Arsenal, Villa, Forest (fighting relegation) and Palace are all still in Europe. Spurs are fighting relegation as Europa league champions.

I'm sure the focus is to win as many points as possible

If I recall correctly it took a striker who scored them 20 goals.

And when he wasn't fit they dropped back down the league.

Chelsea's run in is brutal. I doubt we catch the RS, tbh, but I fancy us to catch HR Liam's Chelsea. I'm actually more worried about the teams directly around us, as they are all putting runs together at the same time as we are.

Their next league games are City & United both at home.

If were above them after the next 2 I think they'll find it hard to leapfrog us.

Guardian today -
The Freidkin Group also own Roma, which could potentially complicate Everton’s hopes of returning to Europe next season as the Italian club are currently sixth in Serie A, which would give them a place in the Conference League. Under Uefa regulations, clubs owned, controlled or operated by the same entity cannot play in the same competition, which this season led to Crystal Palace being forced to drop down to the Conference League to avoid a clash with the French club Lyon.
The Friedkin Group have opted not to put either Everton or Roma in a blind trust to demonstrate a separation of ownership, a compliance route previously taken by Manchester City and Manchester United as they are also both part of multi-club groups, but are confident they will not have any issues.
Sources have disclosed that the Friedkin Group has an alternative structural solution in place that will enable both Everton and Roma to take part if both qualify for the same competition.

I'm not sure what "alternative structural solution" is, but you'd hope it's been cleared by governing bodies and we wont end up having to fight it.

Absolutely
Aim for 5th, might get it or settle for 7th
Aim for top half and that might be all we get.

Yeah, you were telling anyone that would listen that it would be an incredible achievement to finish ahead of 3 other teams in that same season, with basically the same core starting XI that we have now.
