Europa League

I'm totally for it and have never understood the arguments against it. Only 4 teams can get into the CL, if that's all anyone aspires to then football is pretty pointless nowadays, and may as well just be treated as a business. European nights give different experiences, different places to go, great atmosphere.

I think the worry has always been that the extra games will get us into a relegation fight but that was under mr negative 'let's get to 40 points first' . I actually think we'd thrive off it - players, fans and manager.

My dad bought me up with Europe being the aim of domestic football - what a sad state of affairs that there's now only one relatively small (in numbers who can qualify) competition that people are interested in when there used to be three

Basically, apart from finishing top 4 (supposed 'success') everyone else is seen as failures, even the cup winners really because they are going into a 'Mickey mouse' competition. Money has completely polluted football - some teams would rather finish 6th than 5th to avoid the Europa and that is very sad

And I was gutted that year we got knocked out by liege, and the last two years 6th and 7th, which in previous years would have seen us qualify.

Even more than all of the above- from a totally selfish perspective it gives me more Everton during a season!
I love the continued narrative on all fronts.
During our recent Europa League/ UEFA Cup campaigns we had to play kids and make use of our full squad- Hibbo became all time Euro appearance holder for the club (love that), kids like Seamus got debuts and experience, Big Vic became an absolute goal-scoring machine in European competitions swatting aside rubbish opponents left right and centre.
It's brilliant, and it's interesting, and I miss it a lot- obviously I want Champions League, but I would ALWAYS prefer a Euro campaign over none at all..

I really can't think why anyone wouldn't want to be in it. Getting to play (and for some - visit) those teams you would only otherwise see on tv is what it is all about. Whether it's some random team from Eastern Europe or one of the giants from Italy or Spain - it's a fixture to look forward to

There's nothing like the Grand 'ol lady under floodlights for a European game or any other game for that matter. Night games always have a buzz about them!

Rename thread to EUROPE.

We can also discuss our European Cup chances because 4th place isn't ruled out.

It would be great to have European nights of any variety at Goodison because it has been too long, it is a special occasion, there's a new generation of Blues who were too young the last time.

And just because We're Everton, aren't we?

I would be happy about Europa League, it does boost your profile internationally, it does make you a more attractive proposition for transfer targets, it does give the city centre the chance to be full of boss foreign footy fans, great midweek night games at Goodison and great trips for us to places like Spain, Portugal, Germany and Italy. I would be over the moon with Champions League for all those reasons but with the additional sprinkling of stardust.
