Possibly so but you need to take heed of the situation where it's 5-2 (i.e. United win the Europa). If United win the Europa then we (assume) it's Arsenal and Everton OR Everton and Arsenal. If we finish 7th and United then win the EL we inherit the 2nd EL place which is DEFINITELY Group Stage precisely because England gets 2 Group Stage Europa places.

In fact when the league season is done it will be thus (assume we are 7th) and United are outside top 4.

1,2,3, CL Group, 4 CL 1 qualifier

Europa Group x 2 - E Qualifier (2 rounds)

First scenario United win and not top 4 - now 5 plus 2 with (say) Arsenal, Everton both group stage whoever wins FA Cup.

United lose EL final - remains 4+3 with league position critical (7th we go qualifiers)

FA Cup winner only matters to us if Arsenal finish below us and United don't win EL. If we were 6th and then Arsenal won FA Cup they take our Group stage place as FA Cup winner ranks higher.

What if Utd win EL & finish fifth.

Would the EL place they lose via 5+2 rule be the group spot from finishing 5th? Or the qualifying spot from winning League Cup?

The spot that English clubs lose is their last one - the qualifying group stage one. Same rules as all other situations basically, the last qualifier drops down/out etc. or the next eligible team rises up the qualification criteria when a team is disqualified.

I have a trip to Europe coming up late July until end of first week of August.

Missus trying to get me to book some city trips in the Old Continent, any one got any idea of when we will know exact dates of when and where we will be playing in Europa league?

I am trying to kick the can down the road on booking trips with herself so I can miraculously !!!! make sure I take in a game.

Starting to be put under pressure for failure to book anything.

I've had a further look.

I've delved into Bert Kassies website, and i think it's only reaffirmed my position of "6th or Bust", in regards to Automatic qualification to the group. Basically, if a nation cannot fulfill it's position in the competition (i.e. Spain the last couple of seasons), the nation with the next best coefficient would then take its place... so in this instance, we wouldn't qualify.. but the 13th ranked nation, Czech Republic would benefit, which as it stands will be the cup winner Mlada Boleslav or Zlin.

As Europa League title holder, Sevilla qualifies for the Champions league, so they leave an empty spot in the group stage of the Europa League. This implies that the cup winner of the 13th country on the ranking list (Switzerland) has direct access to the group stage, the cup winner of the 18th country on the ranking list (Cyprus) has direct access to the 3rd qualifying round, and the cup winners of the 24th and 25th countries on the ranking list (Sweden and Bulgaria) have direct access to the 2nd qualifying round of the Europas League..

14/07/17: Third qualifying round draw
20/07/17: Second qualifying round, second leg
27/07/17: Third qualifying round, first leg
03/08/17: Third qualifying round, second leg

Book a cheap crappy hotel in a rough part of a bad city.
Make sure you can cancel at no cost
Get cheapo Ryanair flights at bad times.
Then 1 hr after the draw miraculously find a 5 star hotel with a fantastic spa at a great price in whichever city Everton are playing.
It'll cost mind you but so be it.

Doesn't leave much time to get things sorted if we get drawn away in the first leg, could be a pricey one if we get somewhere mad, I remember last year Aberdeen got that Almaty from Kazakhstan with only 6 days notice for the away leg.

Not a chance in hell I can keep the Missus dangling until then.

Thanks UEFA!!!

No this is an entirely different situation based on promoting the 13th nation into the CL Group stages because say, an English or Spanish team wins the CL but is in their top 4 as well. This means that Spain wouldn't have got a 5th slot in the CL if Sevilla or Real Madrid had won the Europa/CL AND finished in the top 4 as well. Also check the UEFA Rule book for the CL 2015-18 which is a 100 page pdf file available to view online.

The only time England's 7th qualifier miss out is if CL/Europa winners are English non-top 4 and then the 5 are those two plus 1-2-3 and then 4th and 5th go to Europa (becoming 5+2 the maximum). Then our 3 places would be reduced to 2.

What happens if United get top 4 and win the EL, while we finish 7th? Do we still get in?

Yeah because there would be a spare Europa League spot from the League Cup final, making it top 7. (The FA Cup finalists are both gonna finish in a european spot so)
