That may not be correct. As Joey stated on the previous page.

If Utd win EL and get CL, then the rules state their EL spot goes back to another nation (Eng get 5 CL & 2 EL).

However, in 5th or 6th they'd have earned EL via 2 routes: league (groups) & league cup (qualifiers)

I presume the lowest EL qualification, namely league cup & EL qualifiers, would go to another nation.

Which means 7th would actually get the EL equivalent of 6th (Eng's 2nd EL spot) ie groups

From the 2015/16 season, the various permutations allow for a maximum of five English clubs to qualify for the UEFA Champions League and five for the UEFA Europa League.[1] The minimum quota is for four English clubs to qualify for the UEFA Champions League and three for the UEFA Europa League.

As I said above, there isnt a Europa league place for 6th.

UEFA Europa League group stage FA Cup winners If the FA Cup winner qualifies for the UEFA Champions League or the UEFA Europa League via the domestic championship, by Regulation 3.04,[2] the highest ranking non-qualified league club qualifies, taking the lowest Europa League spot (the League Cup spot – the League Cup inherits the League spot, and the League inherits the FA Cup spot).

UEFA Europa League play-off round Club finishing 5th in the Premier League If the fifth-placed club has already qualified for Europe through the FA Cup, then the next-highest Premier League finishers get this place

UEFA Europa League third qualifying round League Cup winners If the League Cup winners have already qualified for Europe by a high Premier League finish, then the next highest-finishing Premier League club gets this place

So if we finish 7th and Utd win the EL do we still qualify?

One of Lyon or Roma going out has given Utd a massive opportunity.

That's all well out of date.

5th place & cup winners (6th) go straight to the groups

League cup winners (7th) go into 3rd qualifying round.

Maximum of seven European spaces in any permutation. Forget what competition and that's the easiest way to work it out.

Top 7 get europe unless Leicester win the champs league in which case it's them & the top 6

The league cup place gets bumped off if either Leicester or united win their respective competition.

Just look at Spain's qualifiers this year.

??

We know the FA cup will be won by a team in the top 6. By the rules you've posted, that means the team in 6th will be in Europe somehow. But being I don't know who it will be, or who will win the cup. Referring to it as 6th was just a short hand reference.

There isnt a Europa league place for 7th. But we've just spent 20 pages talking about it.

You implied it here.

I'm not sure I understand your point.

To clarify my point via an example:

1-4 : CL
5th: EL (groups)
6th: Utd EL winners = CL
7th: EL (groups)

The 3rd EL spot (Utd's Lge Cup spot) is redistributed by UEFA to another nation

My point is simple.

I realise league positions will count, in the end, but the criteria is only 6th due to other factors.

1-4 CL
5th - Europa
6th, 7th nothing
FA cup, League cup - Europa

Im being very pedantic basically.

Say for example, Saints won the League Cup and Millwall beat Spurs today and went on to win the whole thing, 6th wouldnt have given Europa.

As I say, im being a bit of an arse.

So basically what can still stop us getting EL qualification? Is it just Leicester winning the CL or something to do with Utd?

As someone in another forum has pointed out it's worth noting that Koeman went full strength in the qualifiers with Southampton.

Seen quite a few on other pages and social media saying they don't want Europa league and yeah, playing Thursday's and Sunday's isn't ideal and if you haven't got the biggest of squads it can be an hindrance and effect your league form but I think it's important for us at this stage with new investment and ambitions of progressing that we are in some form of Europe!

It gets our name back out there, it makes us that little bit more appealing to players and that's the important part. We need our brand out there to be able to attract a better level of player to the club which in turn will help us to improve and kick on like we have ambitions to do.

With the funds now in place and Europe behind us we should be able to attract better players than we currently have which hasn't always been the case in the past!
