It isn't though, is it?

That's not the question.

Good:

Gives away fans a few more journeys, gets the club's name out there a bite more, another shot at a trophy and perhaps a chance to field younger players.

Bad:

I don't think the squad is ready for another year competing on four fronts, and could do with a year focussing on domestic competitions.

I'd take it just to maybe force him to buy early in the summer and get the squad ready by playing a few decent early competitive games. Plus it boosts the club profile and brings in extra revenue.
When it comes to Martinez tho I'm finding it hard to deal with anything that comes from his mouth!!

If it was, how much is each league position worth?

Our manager has said it had a definite negative impact on our domestic form.

As your quotes have shown, our manager contradicts himself quite frequently. Take no notice of him, it's better for your sanity. I learned this earlier this season.

It's highly unlikely we'll manage to get into the top 4.

How close was we last season? It was in our own hands for the last few games...

We have the same squad as last season? No?

We haven't won the league cup in our history, and have only reached the final twice, the last time 31 years ago.

Ah. The League cup curse means we can forget about that completely. Forgot about that.

The FA Cup is perhaps our only chancing of winning something.

The FA Cup is easier to win than the League Cup?

Europe is something tangible that we can qualify for, and have an 'adventure in'.

Midweek, evening games. The ale and the lids on an 'adventure'. That's that then.

I enjoy seeing us in Europe, so I'm all for it. If we do get in, we need to make sure we strengthen the squad in the summer though.

Maybe some early competitive fixtures will do us good instead of the shambles that was the pre season just gone. I also can't see us getting top 4 any time soon, which just leaves Europa league as the aim.

'Each league position is worth X amount of money'

Does anyone actually think this money will actually change anything?

I mean, yeah, we'll earn £3m more if we finish 10th rather than 13th (or something like that). Big deal. £3m is just under a years' wages for one player's £50k a week wages.

The top 4 will spend upwards of £100m each this summer, most likely. £3m is nothing.

Yes.
IF we get proper boost from owners. Naturally we'll fill positions after outs. ...BUT
after that we would have to get 2-3 additions to cope with EL.

This season is perfect example what happends to PL team that hasnt enough width in the squad.

It will wear you down. And thats a fact.

All 2 years older. Some a lot nearer the end of their careers now.

Yeah, our track record would seem to suggest that. Can you explain why we never do well in the League Cup? In the last 6 years we've reached the FA Cup Final once, the semis once, and the 6th round twice.

Midweek, evening games. The ale and the lids on an 'adventure'. That's that then.

You seem to have made up your mind that you don't want us in Europe.

Personally, I like seeing us playing different teams, against different playing styles and cultures. It breaks up the monotomy of a moribund and highly predictable Premier League season, where most teams are slotted into a certain place and usually stay at that level.

We came close to 4th last season. Close is the key word, we didn't qualify for it. We've finished in the top 4 once in the last 27 years. It is not the norm, it is not something we should be expecting or suggesting that we should give up on the Europa for. Europa is about our level. I don't want it to be our level, but that's the reality under the current board regime and finances available to us.

What is more likely?

4th?
Europa League Win?

Based on us finishing on 72 points last season and us having the same squad, I'd say 4th.

Granted, it's an long shot - but why not? Would the probability of 4th decrease with the Europa League? No doubt...

Unless Uefa sort it out. Have the game on a Wednesday and increase the prize money.

Its a drag.
