What happened to the others Esk, genuine question, I don't know the answer and I just wondered
taken as a whole not any specific country 150000+ that came from the EU came Looking for work, of those that did have work, 80% went into the low skilled workers category , hope that helps.
then you have students and I suppose spouses ?
or jail

Haha this brexit has fell on it's arse.

We will be like Norway in the end, free movement and pay to trade.
why would we pay, may as well just pay the tariffs as they would end up paying us more than we pay them, wouldn't make any sense on are part wishful thinking other than for specific part of the economy like financial services industry maybe.

Living in cloud cuckoo land is impossible for any liberal dreamer to shake off.

Thanks for the personal comment.

The question is whether immigration is good for the economy or not? It has been proved beyond all reasonable doubt that immigrants are net contributors to the economy, and therefore benefit the economy.

Now people say what about the effect on public services? Conveniently the Government use this a reason to turn public opinion as its much easier to blame the immigrants than it is to fund public services to the levels that provide decent services for all. I'm not discounting that there are regional and local difficulties but the cause is the political decision not to fund the public service providers be it the NHS or the local councils to meet the need created.

The Government knows that immigration is a positive for the economy yet at the same time makes the political decision not to provide the resources required alongside any growth of local populations.

It could easily be remedied if the Government made it a political priority, but they don't and have allowed immigration to be used for the Brexit cause rather than defending it. It's political cowardice.

Nail, hammer, head. ;)

Life's a bit crap eh, look over there lads it's the Romanians and the Poles fault. If it wasn't for them you'd all be living in quality social housing and the country would be a utopia.

Its not proved beyond doubt its good for the UK to anybody other than those that wish to believe it,
any figures I have seen, cover a marrow perceptive ie benefit to employers ,tax collection, nowhere does it take into account the cost to the NHS. schooling ,housing ect overcrowding or the downward push on the wages of many in this country.
Skill shortages and genuine refugees , no problem with but this unregulated mass immigration is nothing but a cheap labour pool, needs addressing and quick.

The really silly thing is demographics. Pensions are the largest budget item the government has. Not only do most migrants have a net-contribution to the state coffers, they are also by and large of working age. You could easily argue that our retired population is already unsustainable against the size of the working age population, and if you significantly reduce the number of working age migrants that can come, it's only going to make that situation worse.

It's quite the performance from the Tories to pander to retirees, who are their core demographic, whilst also pinning the blame on the very people who help to fund the lifestyle of those retirees.

So the fact that the majority of migrants are more qualified than the native population means they're somehow nothing but a cheap labour pool? As for comments on the NHS and so on, you're attempting to refute evidence with zero evidence. It would help your case significantly if you could show that migrants are impacting the NHS or housing or wages. Can you?
