They could do that today if they wished (article 50.1)

Of course it's a totally false saving given it doesn't include rebates, it's causing a £120 billion bigger hole in the government's coffers plus the damage to future trade and increased costs.

It's only money........

Well actually only £58bn is down to Brexit and apparently the OBR reckon £16Bn of that is down to lower immigration....

Interesting view from Enda Kenny......

The Taoiseach, who will be part of Brussels’ negotiations with the UK alongside his other 27 EU leaders, said there was an "inevitability" about an interim exit deal between Britain and the bloc.

Speaking to Sky News, Mr Kenny expressed his belief a transitional deal will take "longer than expected", hinting at an expectation among EU leaders that initial Brexit talks will drag on past 2019.

He said:"I think there's an inevitability about this to be honest with you. In 50 years nobody has left the EU, this is the first time a country has said, under the treaties, 'we wish to leave'."

Insisting Brexit will be "more detailed" and with more "unforeseen issues than people might have imagined", Mr Kenny added: "I would expect to see the divorce, as it's called, take place but that there'll be a transition period and then a new relationship founded between the UK and EU.

"And that transition period might actually take longer than people expect.

"I think it'll be impossible to do all of the negotiations inside the contemplative two year period.

"That's why I think there's a growing feeling in Europe there should be a transition period and that transition period might well be longer than those two years. I think it will be."

Another view....

Germany NEEDS British trade deal to stop its own economy crashing Bavarian minister says.

GERMANY needs a “comprehensive” trade deal with the UK after Brexit to stop its own economy from crashing, one of the country's economic ministers has warned.

Ilse Aigner, the Bavarian economy minister, warned Brexit could pose a “higher risk” to her country’s economy than could be expected.

She argued the UK is one of the “most important trading partners for Bavaria” - one of Germany’s most prosperous states.

Now Britain hopes the minister’s comments will ensure Germany can help to halt demands from France that the UK “must pay a price” for its decision to quit the Brussels bloc.

Last week, in a huge shift away from her previous comments,Angela Merkel suggested she was willing to compromise on free movement as part of Brexit negotiations.

She suggested the European Union should “discuss further” the rules around the freedom of movement agreement.

And she even raised the possibility Britain could regain full control of its borders while remaining in the single market.

But this could prove controversial - as EU leader Jean-Claude Juncker has previously said the move would be impossible.

Now Ms Aigner has voiced her support for a better deal for Britain and Germany, claiming a trade deal must be set up to help save the German economy.

She said: “We have to do everything to address the uncertainties that have arisen.

“We have to find ways to put economic relations with the UK on a new foundation without fractures.”

The full ramifications of Brexit can be seen in Everton's recent poor run of results.......

"If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you." Lyndon B. Johnson.

Sorry Bruce, but that sort of quote has no place on this forum........I'm sure you meant it differently, but I find that to be really offensive.......

In response to why economically disadvantaged whites continually voted republican. As true today as ever sadly.
