On the contrary, I was asked to lay out our constitutional position and I did so.

I was asked to point to where a Government minister had stated referenda were advisory, I did so.

I stated that the whole situation is a mess. It's a mess not only because of the outcome of the referendum, but for the poor drafting of the initial legislation, the poor planning of what would happen after the referendum, and the Government's handling of the subsequent constitutional and economic crisis.

The impact of the events of the last few years, the rise of the right and the normalisation of extreme views such as Farage will have the widest reaching consequences, not only in the UK, Europe but other democracies around the world as witnessed by this horrific photograph.

Come on mate. It's this hyperbole that makes people vote for him.

To the Esk, re your previous post. Specifically this: "...I stated that the whole situation is a mess. It's a mess not only because of tge outcome of the referendum, but for the poor drafting of the initial legislation, the poor planning of what would happen after the referendum, and the Government's handling of the subsequent consequent constitutional and economic crisis..."

It is not a mess. YOU say it is a mess. Planning and drafting of legislation came about in the way it did because Cameron smugly thought he would easily carry the 'Remain' side in the Referendum vote.

What happens now is that the Government, if any kind of legislation has to be passed through Parliament, will go through the tried and tested methods of such work. That is, a 'Bill Principal' will be appointed (usually a Grade 7 civil servant, but it can be a higher grade if required, Grade 6, 5, 4...) to co-ordinate all the work in accordance with what the PM, Ministers state. The legislation will be drafted, and off we go.

The scaremongering is laughable in the extreme...

In October 2010, David Cameron’s Government responsed to an inquiry by a House of Lords committee, as follows:

"because of the sovereignty of Parliament, referendums cannot be legally binding in the UK, and are therefore advisory".

In response, then-constitutional reform minister Mark Harper stated: "The Government agrees with this recommendation.

"Under the UK’s constitutional arrangements, Parliament must be responsible for deciding whether or not to take action in response to a referendum result."

OB2 - with this post you have articulated and demonstrated the basis of my concerns far more eloquently than I could have done, thank you.

And with this post above it shows you have scant regard for the will of the people, if it doesn't fit your own agenda. You simply want to ignore a democratic process. Basically, your views are no longer worth the proverbial carrot...

But Esk, you've got no balance at all here.

You do not mention at all that we've also had the rise of the extreme left as well. It's becoming on here that Left = Good, Right = Evil ; rather than an understanding that extremes of anything except Everton supporting is usually a bad thing.

A photo of slightly bemused Jeremy Corbyn flanked by sinister types like McDonnell, Milne and Abbott is just as poor a sign as Trump and the never-elected-to-Parliment Farage at his Aldi Xanadhu

To the Esk and the rest of the Remainers:
YOU CAME SECOND IN A TWO-HORSE RACE. YOU LOST. GET OVER IT...

If you love the EU so much, go and live over there when we finally pull out. You will not be missed...

Same old OB2, of course he would be very humbled in defeat and wouldn't dare challenge it (except in the instance of the ruling of the High Court judged the other week).

Just because Remainers lost, that doesn't mean they can't criticise the manner in which Brexit is being handled does it?

Or do you think that all Remainers should now stop voicing any concerns, get over it, and let Theresa May go about Brexit in whichever way she pleases?

One of the amusing parts of the referendum was remoaners suggesting that they'll leave the country. Their top picks were Canada, Australia and America. All of which are not in the EU.

Yes, but your post that he highlighted did insult the remainers that aren't cry-arses. Well done.

Tbf, if Farage can help the UK strengthen it's relationship with the USA via his obvious connection with Trump then that will aid us both in our exit negotiations and in delivering additional economic opportunities. The UK hating Obama has treated the Uk disgracefully and it will be good to have a UK supporter back in the White House. Farage, like him or loathe him, has played a blinder and has helped to shape the futures of both the USA and the UK. Juncker hated him before, he will absolutely detest him now....

Go read through the last few hundred pages to get the drift of what I, and others, say. It is one thing to have a sensible debate. It is something else altogether to rant on and on and on, and nit-pick, and denigrate the views of those who voted leave.

That's all there is to say about it really. Do you think we should take all the crap lobbed at us and stay silent...?

I understand where you are coming from, but we should be more magnanimous to our fellow Evertonians who still grieve....

Good post, but note that some, like esk and Bruce, have now moved to a position that that derails brexit, not simply have a democratic/just control of what that entails.
