Just trying to show a parallel. In fact Texas did fight for independence in its past from a different country, which is why there are some (only a few on the right at the moment, but we see how that can change) who want to secede from the USA.
Oh understood mate ;) I'm not advocating for "anyone who thinks they should be independent should go to town for it" type deal btw.

Farage couldn't promise anything like that anyway - he's not in power.

Was something many of those that wanted to leave hung their hat on. Even plastered it on a bus.

No plan at all. Very worrying.

Texas seceding would be similar to Merseyside ( or similar) seceding, Texas isn't already a nation like Scotland is. Also given the different setups there really isn't a direct US comparison. I also never brought up the US but everyone seems eager to bring it up in their responses.
The point is that it would do a lot of harm to the Texas economy and not really affect the rest of the US much. Similar to what will happen to Britain. The rest of Europe will get along fine, England will suffer.

I work for a bank (in foreign exchange) in Europe, we have significant trading operations in London. All those jobs are probably gone, to Paris or Amsterdam or somewhere else on the continent. It doesn't matter what the result of trade negotiations will be, the people in charge will take steps to avoid any risk beforehand. A lot of people are going to be out of work because of this. There are going to be very real, very tangible consequences even before any sort of negotiations are entered into.

Yes. UKIP portrayed it all as the land of milk and honey.

Just don't expect to see that phantom £350million spent on ACTUAL hospitals

Technical service sector is taking flight to Ireland mate too.
