Having witness the desire by many in the Remain camp to do their damndest to get parliament to ignore the result of the referendum and the electorate, I've retrospectively changed my vote in this poll to Out.

I look on this as a vote for democracy.
Someone will bite.

That's the elephant in the room, as driving is far and away the biggest employer of un-skilled men in the western world, and automation is likely to make them all redundant within the next decade.

lollol

You reckon a driverless van will be any good at sorting, loading, and delivering stuff then? Like knowing that the address "Heidi Bridge, Quays Office Park, BS20 7RH" is the receptionist at one of 30 businesses at said office park?

Post code is made up btw, but you get the gist.

Yep. Giving a talk on this next month, you can come along if you like ;) Just don't throw stuff at me like.

Seriously, on the sorting/loading side, Mercedes are already trialing this, and they use smaller machines made by Starship Technologies that are loaded in the back of a van that acts as a 'hub' that the robots then venture out from with the goods and do the 'last mile' delivery.

Not a chance mate. You honestly think that in the next 10 years, we will have robots delivering stuff? (Some would say we already have mind)

Yep. They're being tested at the moment in Greenwich, and you've got similar devices being used for things like baggage handling in Switzerland. Not going to happen over night, but I wouldn't be confident of long-term career prospects in driving.

He's winding you up mate.

His plan is to usurp your position with Yodel by undercutting you with lycra clad, steroid enhanced cyclists dragging a trailer full of goods behind them.

The only way to defeat him is to actively seek and destroy all cyclists on the road ... or on cycle lanes for that matter.

Not really. If they are employing you to do something for them, you are an employee.

Depends on the contract. I employ a gardener but he's not an employee as he also works for other people. If he worked exclusively for me then HMRC would argue he was an employee......

Just think of the say, 2 square miles around you. I would guess it has flats, houses, businesses, and pretty tough parking. Even short term.

Can you honestly see a driverless van, looking for a gap to pull up into, probably on a yellow, and then a robot selecting a parcel that it had already loaded, in order, then buzzing number 12 in a block of flats, (cos it knows she is always in), to get access, then climb 5 flights of stairs, or get the lift to number 72. Then leave the parcel by the front door?

Then do everything in reverse to get back to said van. Unlock it, get in, and repeat about 100 times a day.

When one stumble on a kerb that makes it fall over renders the robot useless.

Its called manual work for a reason.

Flats will be serviced by delivery drones just flying in through your window ;)

the details are lots of people in a area that badly need jobs has got them, If I worked there I wouldn't give a rats other than I can look forward to having a decent future.
The Government subsidises every farmer in the country, nobody bats an eyelid , working class get a crumb thrown there way uproar, if it was in Battersea not the north east there wouldn't be a thing said.

It's only being raised by the likes of the Soubry woman and a few remainers because she's upset about the way the vote went.....everyone else seems quite happy about it.....mind you, it's worth a read of this thread on the day it happened....
